“橘园”二字，用英语怎么说呢？

第一反应，当然是orange orchard。

偶然在CDO上发现，可以说an apple / cherry orchard苹果／樱桃园，但似乎不能说orange orchard，该词典定义的orchard为：an area of land where fruit trees (but not orange trees or other citrus trees) are grown，其中citrus trees即柑橘类果树。

但是，在Collins上，搜索orange orchard，又可得数例，其一为：In 1918, it had a brick factory and an orange orchard and in 1912, a school district was formed.

那么，如果不能用orange orchard，又怎么说“橘园”呢？

(1) orange field？

查citrus得一例句：The field was planted with citrus trees. 由此推出可用orange field。

(2) orange farm

《中国日报》网站上的例句：… who manages an orange farm in the district, regularly buys manure to fertilize the 7,000 orange trees on his farm.

(3) orange garden

在英语里tea garden，有两意，一是an outside restaurant where drinks and small meals are served，即“露天茶室”；一是a tea plantation (= large area of land where tea plants are grown)，即“茶叶种植园”。所以，可将“橘园”仿译为orange garden。

顺便说一下，orange是一个上义词，下义词中有一个与我们有关：the China orange, 也可以叫（also called） the sweet！另外，mandarin（谐音“满大人”）也有“柑橘”之意，也可拼作mandarin orange，定义为a small, sweet type of orange that has a thinner, looser skin。
