Moisturize
Everyone needs a moisturizer, whether you have oily or acne skin, dry skin, rosacea or dehydrated skin. And because everyone has different skin types, there are many, many types of moisturizers to suit every need. Here a simple guide to help you choose the best one for your own, unique concerns:
•Cream Moisturizers ? Best for mature, dry, very dry, dehydrated and sensitive skin. If you picture your skin like a screen and you apply a cream moisturizer over it, you can visualize what it does for your skin. A cream will penetrate, but not enough to reach the cellular level. But a cream’s purpose is not to penetrate; it is to leave a thin film on your skin. This barrier protects your skin from the elements in the environment and from acquiring further damage. This is the best choice for mature skin types.
•Gel or Liquid Moisturizers ? These are most often a thinner consistency making them suitable for almost every skin type. They offer superior hydration; penetration is deeper than a cream moisturizer. The negative aspect is that you don’t get a protective barrier like you do with a cream. Those with normal, combination, oily or acne skin are a big fan of gel and liquid moisturizers because of the matte finish they leave. They completely soak in leaving absolutely no residue or shine. If you have dry skin, drier skin in the winter or are experiencing surface dehydration, we recommend layering a cream moisturizer over a liquid or gel to achieve maximum hydration. If you are using a serum (which you should be!) and you want to work in a liquid moisturizer and a cream, you should apply your treatment serum first, then layer your liquid moisturizer and apply your cream moisturizer last.
•Lotion Moisturizers ?This type of moisturizer is a perfect balance between a cream and a gel. A medium consistency ensures it penetrates deep enough to offer light cellular hydration and is still thick enough to provide a light protective barrier. Normal , combination, oily, acne, sensitive and slightly dry skin types are best for this type of moisturizer.
•Oil Moisturizers ? Suitable for all skin types. Oil moisturizers vary greatly between brands and within a specific brand. There are brands that offer different oil moisturizers for different skin types. If you have never used an oil moisturizer before, we strongly recommend that you use it at night for the first time so you can see how your skin adapts. Some skins immediately soak oil in, but others may need up to 15 minutes for all product to absorb.?Although it is one of the hardest concepts to comprehend, an oil moisturizer is great for oily skin. This is because you are providing sufficient lipids (healthy oil). Your skin no longer has to over-compensate for the constant stripping of oil. Instead, it accepts this new level of moisture and under-compensates for it. Of course, it will take anywhere from 14-28 days for oily skin to adjust. But we promise you, the end result is nothing short of perfection. When choosing any moisturizer, always read the specific brand directions.
