"Invictus" 是英国诗人威廉·欧内斯特·亨利（William Ernest Henley，1849-1903）一本诗集的书名，也是书中一百多篇杰作的核心诗篇。亨利于12岁的时候发现身患骨结核。几年后，病情发展到他的脚，医生宣布，为挽救他的生命，唯一办法就是从膝盖以下截肢。亨利于25岁时被截肢。他在医院的病床上写下了"Invictus" 这首诗。此后，他积极地生活，成为诗人，评论家和编辑，直到他53岁去世。
