   I'm glad that I'm not one of contestants Debbie whispered.They must feel really nervous .

   Oh,I would love to be a contestant , Angela said .

   The three contestants were sitting at their desks on the stage and waiting .The hot lights were shining down on them .Suddently ,one of them stood up and then fell forward across her desk .

Oh,she’s fainted !shouted Debbie .A cameraman helped the woman off the stage .The director hurried down from the control room .We need another contestant before the show begins ,he shouted .Who wants to be on TV ?

 Angela immediately raised her hand .The director asked her to go up to the stage at once.A make-up artist quickly powdered Angela’s face and combed her hair .

 Ten seconds ,shouted the director ,Smile ,everyone .The audience started clapping .

 A voice boomed ,It’s time for Travel Quiz ,and here’s your host ,Lester  Li ! Lester Li ran onto  the stage .The quiz show began .

Although Angela was unprepared ,she was excellent .She answered the questions easily and was soon ahead of the other two contestants .

 Twenty –five minutes later ,Angela had the most points .She just had to answer six more questions to win the big prize .

 While Angela was calm and relaxed ,Debbie was so excited that she could hardly keep still !Angela kept getting the questions right .There was just one last question to go .

And finally ,where is Palace museum ?Lester asked .

 In Beijing ,Angela replied .

 Right !Lester shouted ,as the audience clapped .You have own tonight’s big prize ——a trip for two to the lovely city of Paris .

Grammar direct speech into reptorted speech

概念:直接引用别人的原话时,被引用部分称为直接引语;当用自己的话转述别人的话时。被转述的部分称为间接引语,间接引语在多数情况下构成宾语从句。直接引语一般前后要加引号,间接引语不用引号。

变化规则。(reporting statements

1.     陈述句由直接引语变为间接引语,如果引述动词为现在时形式(say),间接引语中的动词时态不变。如果引述动词是过去形式(said,间接引语的动词时态一般要作如下变化:

一般现在时变,一般过去式;现在进行时变过去进行时;一般将来时变过去将来时;现在完成时变过去完成时;过去式边过去完成时,过去完成时保持不变。

Mother says that knowledge is important in our life .

Robert said ,”I am joking with Mary” Robert said that he was joking with Mary .

2.     一般疑问句或反意疑问句由直接引语变间接引语时,通常用whether或if 引导,而转述选择疑问句时只用whether 引导,引语部分必须用陈述语序。

“Is the book yours or his ?” Mother asked .

3.     引述特殊疑问句时,用原句中的WH-或H-词引导,引语部分必须用陈述语序。

4 .引述祈使句多半采用“动词+宾语+不定式”结构。常见的动词:ask , tell ,beg ,warn ,remind

【常考句型】

1.      What surprising things happened in the story?

故事里发生了什么令人惊讶的事?

[用法]

     surprising是形容词,意为“令人惊讶的”,动词和名词是surprise。surprised也是形容词,意为“感到惊讶的”。surprised常用来修饰人,surprising常用来修饰物。

[举例]

     She was surprised to hear the news. 听到那个消息,她非常惊讶。

     What a surprising thing it is! 真令人惊讶啊!

[运用]

1)我对他们的表演感到非常惊讶。

 

2)那是件令人惊讶的事。

 

2.      Suddenly, one of them stood up and then fell forward across her desk.

突然,一个参赛者站起来,然后在桌子前面摔倒了。

[用法]

    one of…, …之一,后接名词或代词,但必须是复数。fall forward “向前摔倒”。across 介词,“穿过”,指从物体表面穿过。

[举例]

One of the boys came over and said “hello” to Jim.

其中的一位男孩走了过来与杰姆打了个招呼。

[辨析] across, through, over

     三者都表示“穿过;通过”,但用法有所不同。

1)across 指从表面穿过,可和street, bridge等搭配。

2)through指从立体空间穿越,可和forest, city, window等搭配。

3)over 指越过高的障碍物等。

[举例]

     The little girl is running across the road. 那个小女孩正横穿马路。

     The river runs through the city. 这条河从城市中间流过。

     Tom jumped over the high wall and ran away. 汤姆跳过墙,跑了。

[运用]

     1)其中的一个小猴向我们挥了挥手。

    

     2)过街道时要小心。

 

3.      Although Angela was unprepared, she was excellent.

尽管安杰拉没有准备,但她表现很好。

[用法]

     although conj. 尽管;虽然,是从属连词,用来引导让步状语从句。but为“但是”,句中如果有although, though, even though等从属连词时,就不能再使用but。

[举例]

     Although my car is very old, it still runs well.

我的车虽然很旧,但仍然跑得很好。

[运用]

1)Although the sun was shining, it wasn’t very warm.

 

2)厨房虽小,但设计巧妙。

 

4.  She answered the questions easily and was soon ahead of the other two contestants.

   她很轻易地回答了问题并且很快超过了其他两位选手。

[用法] 

ahead of 介词短语,“领先;提前”。ahead of time“提前”。

[举例]

     She was always well ahead of the rest of the class.

     她总是遥遥领先班上的其他同学。

[运用]

1)His ideas were well ahead of his times.

 

2)会议提前召开了。

 

5.  She just had to answer six more questions to win the big prize.

她仅仅需回答其他6道题就可赢得那个大奖。

[用法]

     more (much或many的比较级) adj. 另外的;附加的;更多的;adv. 再;另外;而且;更。

[举例]

     I need more rest. 我还需要休息。

     I have to write two more letters today. 今天我还得再写两封信。

[常用短语]

    more and more越来越…; more or less 或多或少;no more 不再;once more 再一次;no more than 仅仅,只有;not more than 最多,不超过;the more…, the more… 越…, 就越…

[运用]

1) 我有一些别的问题要问你。

 

2) We should show more concern for others.

 

6.      Debbie was so excited that she could hardly keep still.

黛比无比兴奋,以至于她不能保持平静。

[用法]

     so…that…如此…以至于…, that引导的否定从句,可以和too…to…换用。hardly“几乎不”否定副词,一般与can/could连用,它用于陈述句时,反义疑问句后用肯定形式。

[举例]

     She could hardly keep still, could she? 她几乎不能保持安静,是吗?

[辨析] hardly 和 never

     两个都是频率副词,表否定,never“从不;绝不”hardly“几乎不”,常和ever连用表强调。

     如:I hardly go out these days. 这些天我几乎不出门。

         My parents are never late for work. 我父母上班从不迟到。

[运用]

1)她几乎从不给我来过电话。

 

2)他从未出过国。

 

7.  Angela kept getting the questions right. 安杰拉继续正确回答问题。

[用法]

     keep vt. 保持;保存,keep doing sth 为“继续做某事”

[举例]

     Everyone should take more exercise and keep healthy.

     每个人都应该多锻炼,保持健康。

     Will you keep the book for me?  帮我保管一下这本书好吗?

[辨析] keep doing sth和 keep on doing sth

     Keep 这个动词后面不接不定式,而要接动名词。keep doing 是“继续不断地做”的意思,强调一种活动不间断,保持一种状态。keep on doing也是“继续做”的意思,着重指动作的反复多次。

[举例]

     The birds kept singing in the tree. 鸟儿在树上不停地唱。

     The boy kept coughing the whole night. 那男孩整夜咳嗽。

[常用词组]

     keep healthy 保持健康; keep away from 远离; keep up with 跟上;

 keep off 使让开; keep quiet 保持安静。
