　　媒体惊曝：1年前巴菲特错过一条短信，导致华尔街顶尖投行破产进而“引发”全球金融危机

　　去年9月15日华尔街顶级投行“雷曼兄弟”破产前夜，“股神”巴菲特因不会用手机，错过一条重要短信，最终导致“雷曼”巨人轰然倒塌。值此华尔街金融危机1周年之际，美国《华尔街日报》惊曝这一内幕。

　　“雷曼”求生未果宣告破产

　　据报道，这一惊人内幕来自于“股神”巴菲特与其多年好友、《财富》杂志资深编辑卡洛·卢米斯共同参加的一次会议。

　　2008年9月13日傍晚6时左右，当“股神”巴菲特准备出门参加加拿大埃德蒙顿的一个社交活动时，他接到了英国第三大银行巴克莱银行主管鲍勃·戴蒙德的电话。原来，戴蒙德正打算抄底收购“雷曼兄弟”，将后者从破产边缘拉回来，但他在英国政府那里遇到了困难，因此他希望巴菲特能提供担保，以便推动交易顺利进行。急于出门的巴菲特当时表示，这个交易计划听起来过于复杂，他很难通过一个简短电话搞清楚，于是让戴蒙德把具体交易计划通过传真发给他。但当巴菲特午夜时分回到酒店房间的时候，他惊讶地发现什么也没收到。

　　“股神”10个月后看到短信

　　2008年9月15日，有着158年历史的华尔街顶尖投行“雷曼兄弟”公司宣告破产。接下来全球金融体系数天之内也陷入了一场全面的危机。

　　时间过去了10个月。直到有一天，巴菲特不经意地询问女儿苏珊，自己手机屏幕上的一个小图标代表了什么。结果，不谙手机基本功能的他竟被告知，这正是那天晚上巴菲特一直等待的来自戴蒙德的语音邮件！今年9月15日，巴菲特在《财富》杂志举行的一次会议上首次承认，他错过了一条有关收购雷曼的重要手机信息。巴菲特随后表示:“千万不要通过手机来联系我。”至于戴蒙德当初为何不照巴菲特的吩咐使用传真，则不得而知。

　　华尔街全都看他“脸色”

　　可以肯定的却是，巴菲特在1年前那场金融危机的高峰期间，每天都要接到大量求助电话。有时候，巴菲特为了谋求高额回报，偶尔也会同意帮助电话另一端陷入恐慌的金融家。比如，在去年秋天金融危机最严重的时候，巴菲特向高盛集团注资50亿美元，得到了股息率10%的累积优先股。两周之后，巴菲特还获得了通用电气(GE)的永久优先股和认股权证。(吴文)

巴菲特的“幸运乌龙”

在金融危机爆发一周年之际（一般以雷曼破产为标志：2008年9月15日），巴菲特在接受CNBC财经节目“Squawk Box”的记者 Becky Quick的录音采访时，透露了当年危机爆发时的前一个周末发生许多有趣的事儿。在雷曼兄弟破产的前一个周末（2008年9月12日-14日），恰逢巴菲特在加拿大的埃德蒙顿（Edmonton）参加一项社交活动。在那个不平凡的周末，巴菲特接到了大量的电话，其中有两个最重要的求救电话：一个来自巴克莱银行主管戴蒙德(Bob Diamond)，关于解救雷曼的电话；另一个则是来自AIG的CEO Bob Willumstad,关于出售资产自救的电话。

结果，一个电话因为巴菲特的“乌龙”，而不了了之；另一个则干脆遭到巴菲特直截了当的拒绝。

事后，据巴菲特身边的好友，巴菲特每年《致股东信》的写手，《财富》(Fortune)杂志资深编辑卢米斯(Carol Loomis)透露：在雷曼兄弟破产的10个月后，有一天，巴菲特拿着自己的手机，问女儿苏珊(Susan)自己手机屏幕上的一个小图标代表了什么：你知道这是什么意思吗？当得知这是一个语音邮件的提示，而这一提示在巴菲特的手机上被保留了10个月！结果，这正是那个周六晚上巴菲特一直等待的来自戴蒙德的语音邮件。（这引发了另一个问题：戴蒙德为什么不照巴菲特所说的那样使用传真呢？）他承认自己从未真正了解自己手机的基本功能。显然由于不了解手机的一些功能，巴菲特摆了一个“重大的乌龙”！事后证明这可能是一个“幸运的乌龙”。

如果，巴菲特没有摆这个“乌龙”，巴克莱或许会成功收购雷曼？雷曼兄弟也幸运逃过破产一劫？华尔街掀起的金融危机是否就此终止？抑或巴菲特因为巴克莱提供交易的保单，由此卷入雷曼破产案，成为不幸名单上的殉葬者？但是，历史 没有“如果”，也不相信“假定”。历史就是由一连串的“偶然”组成的。冥冥之中，雷曼破产，时耶命耶。巴菲特连“乌龙”也可以是幸运的，幸运似乎总是降到最不希望幸运的人的头上。那些天天祈求幸运的人，似乎鲜有幸运降临？

对待另一个AIG的求救电话，巴菲特则表现得直截了当：很抱歉，我不会做这单交意。别在我这儿浪费时间，你们还是找其他人吧。（"Unfortunately -- I can't do this deal.  And don't waste your time with me, so go someplace else." ）

在金融危机期间，巴菲特接了大量的交易或求救的电话，大部分的交易和求救都被拒绝了，只有少部分成为幸运的中奖者，如：向高盛集团(Goldman Sachs Group)注资50亿美元，得到了股息率10%的累积优先股和认股权证；向通用电气(GE)注资30亿美元，获得永久优先股和认股权证。这两项交易，现在看来，这既是高盛和通用电气的幸运，也是巴菲特的幸运。巴菲特在金融危机中最大的这两单股权交易，现在都获得巨大的账面收益。与以往一样，幸运的馅饼又一次砸到巴菲特的头上。不过，在危机期间，砸到巴菲特头上最大的馅饼还是来自于中国——比亚迪，其在比亚迪的投资已经翻了八番。幸运似乎总是一次次降到最不需要“幸运”的人的头上。当馅饼一次次重复砸到一个人的头上，难道仅仅是幸运?

The world's second richest man has revealed that on the weekend of Lehman's spectacular collapse last year, Barclays' president, Bob Diamond, rang him to ask if he'd be willing to help with a rescue of Lehman.

When Buffett fielded the call on the evening of Saturday September 13, he was hurrying out to an engagement in Edmonton, Alberta. So he asked Diamond to get back to him with details later.

Diamond did, indeed, call back and left a message on the voicemail of the Sage of Omaha's cellphone. But the notoriously tech-unsavvy billionaire was unfamiliar with the workings of his handset and didn't notice that there was a message on it. With no offer forthcoming, Lehman proceeded to declare itself bankrupt and we all know the consequences to that fiasco.

A full 10 months later, according to Time magazine, Buffett asked his daughter, Susie, about a funny little symbol on the screen of his phone. It turned out to be Diamond with the lowdown on Lehman. There's a simple lesson to the story, Buffett told Fortune's Most Powerful Women summit in California: "Don't try to get in touch with me by cellphone."

Buffett has long been known as a technophobe - he prefers bricks and mortar investments such as Coca-Cola, See's Candies and Fruit of the Loom underwear to computers, cellphones and dotcom start-ups.

He's quite a dabbler in banks - he pumped $5bn into Goldman Sachs at the height of the crisis and he has positions in Wells Fargo and American Express. But it seems a little far-fetched that he would have stepped in as an eleventh hour white knight for Lehman.

For starters, if Buffett was really interested, he might have made a little more effort to keep in touch with Barclays. He's made his disdain clear for the kind of exotic derivatives that pushed Lehman into difficulties in the first place, famously branding them "financial weapons of mass destruction".

Plus, it's not clear precisely what he could have brought to the table - the reason Barclays ultimately backed away from a pre-bankruptcy buyout of Lehman was that the Financial Services Authority in the UK told the bank that it would need a shareholder vote before pressing ahead. The US government refused to provide a backstop against losses that might have permitted Barclays to take a short cut.

So although it's a delightful story, and it adds a little panache to Buffett's everyman "billionaire next door" image, the case of voicemail-gate is probably best viewed as an entertaining footnote to the annals of history.
