发现不少时候,这些词被误用了,Study有学习和研究的含义,而Research是探索和研究的含义,Survey只有调研的意思。Survey相对容易区分,而Study和Research则相对困难,看看外国人的对比:
一、Study是对既有信息的分析和总结,Research是对信息的获取和分析
Can you study something you have not discovered first? Do you not see "Search" and the prefix "Re" -Research, refers to the Search, by which the data will be gathered, and "Studied" to come to a conclusion, based on the Research itself. For Example: To find all the Definitions of the word "Study" would require"Research" taking into account the Etymology, the Numerous number of Dictionaries available, the common use of the word in various cultures, Etc. not till all the Research Datum is gathered, could you "Study" in depth all the Data of your Research. Etymology Dictionary: study (v.) c.1125, from O.Fr. estudier"to study" (Fr. étude), from M.L. studiare, from L. studium "study, application," originally "eagerness," fromstudere "to be diligent" ("to be pressing forward"), from PIE *(s)teu- "to push, stick, knock, beat" (see steep(adj.)). The noun meaning "application of the mind to the acquisition of knowledge" is recorded from c.1300. Sense of "room furnished with books" is from 1303. Study hall is attested from 1891, originally a large common room in a college. Studious is attested from c.1382. research 1577, "act of searching closely," from M.Fr. recerche (1539), from O.Fr. recercher "seek out, search closely," from re-, intensive prefix, + cercher "to seek for" (see search). Meaning "scientific inquiry" is first attested 1639. Phraseresearch and development is recorded from 1923.
二、Study和Research的差别在于信息是否存在
1. Difference between studying and research:
This is an excellent question, especially because both are ways you
can learn. The difference is in the information presentation.
Usually when you study, you have the information presented to you.
You know what are main points and there is a limited amount of
material that needs to be comprehended and learned. With research,
the possibilities are endless! There is a lot of information but it
is your job to find it and synthesize it. Both with studying and
research you end up learning a lot. Some people, however, prefer
not to have to spend time looking for information, but rather like
to focus on concise material that they can learn to understand and
apply. Other people are more comfortable searching for information.
The search alone teaches them and they do not feel like they have
to focus on any specific text.
2. Difference between a study and a research paper:
According to the Oxford American Dictionary, a study is a
"detailed investigation and analysis of a subject
or a situation" and research is
"the systematic investigation into and study of
materials and sources in order to establish facts and reach new
conclusions." In other words, a study is sort of
like looking into what is already there and then presenting it.
Research is testing new hypothesis about an already established or
a new idea or fact.
综上,很多研究实际上是Study,一些Research Lab或者Institute,实际上是Study Lab或者Institute,当然有些可能仅仅是Survey,研究还是在于发现未知的东西,而不是总结既有的内容
