About Program:

The “Stay Alive” was SHI JING XIN's second work after her returning to China from studying in New York. She tried to bring about the charm of contemporary dance by bringing the East and West together as well as the traditional and Avant-garde art.The “Stay Alive” was divided into two different styles of contemporary dance theater works.

1* The premiere of Stay Alive was commissioned by M1 Singapore Fringe Festival 2011.A story about Shanghai, about the choreographer and her grandmother, who has lived in Shanghai for the last 82 years and has witnessed the changes of the city and the world around her. The work leads XIN to re-acquaint with her grandmother and finally brings them closer to each other.

2* Xia Xie Bo Wa-Awakening, white, Brahma (also known as Dance Sacrifice) explores the dialog between tradition and the contemporary, dance and new media.Shanghai Spring International Music Festival performances repertoire.The piece of work is founded in the United States Davis Foundation-"peace plan-about Tibet"project,inspired by the trip to Tibet and Gitanjali, the poem of Rabindranath Tagore. It tells the three stages of life, the awakening, white and Brahma which symbolize the alienation and integration of life. It is a pilgrimage of the dancer to savior the true meaning of life.

Director's words:

These two work for me are the body's wandering journey. “Stay Alive” is about the city of Shanghai, about my grandmother, about life that we ignore the beauty and strength. This is a form of dance theater interpretation of the story, is also a journey of memories, memories of the ordinary but great grandmother's life, memories from far to near and grandmother between emotions, memories of the good in life we forget. At the end of this trip, I think I found a share of the most precious gift, that is the grandmother and God has given me: hope! “Xia Xie Bo Wa” is a period to explore the journey of an artist self-belief and physical culture in Asia, also since 2009, I traveled in Southeast Asia, an art showing Tibet as a source, has gone through Nepal, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, the end of Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, The end of each station to find the same answer: faith!

They continually reflect upon their personal experiences through the process of creation. XIN-ART-LAB was established with an aim to search for a physical expression. The company integrates different modes of expression, merging sounds, images, theatre and other elements to find a voice for Chinese contemporary performance art.

About the Choreographer:

SHI JING XIN is the founder and artistic director of XIN-ART-LAB .She graduated from the Master programme of the Beijing Dance Academy,and stayed in school for teaching until now .She was born in Lanzhou,grew up in Shanghai,studied in Beijing,rafting Paris、Berlin、Belgium、Nepal、Japan、Thailand、Singapore、Indonesia、Malaysia、London、New York、Cambodia、Denmark、Netherland.She has studied from choreographer Chen Weiya,Deng Yijian,French choreographer Susan-Buirge, the Avant-garde performance pioneer Professor Richard Schechner.She was the youngest director of the 29^th Beijing Olympic Games opening ceremony director group,won the scholarship from the Chinese Scholarship Council to visit Tisch School of New York University,was the American Dance Festival international choreographers proect invites artists.Her artistic works are Nothing is Real, Bow, the Human Zoo, Stay Alive, Yuan Ming Yuan, The Empty City, Memory, Time, Fragments, XIA XIE BO WA-Awakening、White、Brahma, The World of Masks,ect.In 2011, she participated in the International Choreographers Residency programme at the American Dance Festival. Her works won the best dance video of the 39^th New York Dance Video Festival, and awards for the 6^th national solo, dual and trio dance competition, the 3^rd and 5^th Lotus Cup dance competition, the 2^nd CCTV dance competition, etc.Her literary publications include the Body Story, and columns“New York Journals” in Chinese Art–Chinese Dance and “XIN-ART-LAB: Dance”in Dance Research .

About the Company:

XIN-ART-LAB was founded in 2009 by SHI JING XIN, whose collaborators include graduates from various art academies and independent artists, who share a similar artistic pursuits and attitude towards creation. She has screated "NOTHING IS REAL" ," the World of Masks "," The Empty City "," Museum of the body human zoo "," memory - time - Fragments "and a series of experimental dance works, worked at the American Dance Festival, M 1 Singapore Fringe Festival, Beijing Dance Festival, the Guangdong  Dance Festival performances, repeatedly making contemporary dance special exhibitions, organized by the art lectures and other international art exchange activities.
