　　刘禹锡（772－842），字梦得，唐代诗人，被白居易称作“诗豪”。他的许多作品，立意新颖，思想深刻；七言绝句受到民歌的启发，写得明快清新，富有生活气息和地方色彩。

1.洞庭——洞庭湖，在湖南省北部，长江南岸。湖中有不少小山，最有名的是君山。

2.潭面——湖面。潭，水很深的湖。

3.色——一作“翠”。

4.青螺——青绿色的螺壳。螺是一种软件小动物，体外有螺旋形硬壳。

　　秋夜是最晴朗的，秋月是最皎洁的，秋水是最平静的。诗人这次来观赏洞庭湖的风光，正是在一个清秋月夜，而且是水面无风的时候。可以想象，呈现在他面前的，会是怎样一片宁静、和谐的湖光月色了。所以诗人情不自禁地说：这很像是还没磨光的镜面啊！古代没有玻璃，镜子是用青铜铸的，磨光以后才能照人。未磨的镜面，平而不滑，明而不亮，朦朦胧胧，用来形容月夜湖光，真是恰到好处。

　　诗人又将视线移向远方：洞庭湖心，青山一点，那就是自古闻名的君山了。这么苍翠，这么小巧，蹲在皓月清辉的水面上，正好似白银盘里的一只小青螺呢！

　　这首山水小诗的妙处，全在于几个生动的比喻。它们不但表现了月下洞庭的迷人景色，而且人对面映衬出诗人自己的形象：浩瀚无边的洞庭湖，在诗人眼里不过是一面铜镜，一具银盘，美而神秘的君山，不过是一只小小的螺壳。如果不是站得高、看得远，如果没有宽广阔大的胸怀，要这样视大为小，举重若轻，那是不可能的。


  Liu Yuxi（772-842）was a famous poet of the mid-Tang Dynasty.Many of his verses are original with profound ideas. Inspired by ancient ballads,he wrote many elegant and original verses imbued with lift and local flavour.
  In this poem,Liu described vividly the beauly of the Dong Ting Lake which is a large lake in the northern part of Hunan Province. It was during a quiet Autumn night when the bright moon hung in the sky and the Lake was calm with no wind,the poet went there for a stroll.Atranquil and harmonious picture of the charming moonlight being reflected by the Lake surface prompted the poet to compare the scenic night view of the Lake to the unpolished surface of a bronze mirror.In ancient China,people used bronze mirrors,the surface of whic had to be polished before images could be clearly reflected. Since an unpolished mirror surface could only give rather vague images,it was a suitable metaphorical expression of the beauty of bright moon. Slight relected on the calm lake surface during a quiet Autumn night .Then he looked further to the famous Junshan Hill in the middle of the Lake.What he could see was a cute green tip above the calm water surface just like a green conch on a white silver plate.

  The success of the poem lies in the skillful use of the vivid metaphors which not shows the charming night view of the Lakeunder the moonlight but also reveals the rich artstic imagination of the poet.Only an artist of a wider vision and versatility could compare successfully a vast lake to merely a mirror surface and a white silver plate,and the charming and mysterious Junshan Hill to nothing more than a green conch.
