Billecart-Salmon Elisabeth Salmon Brut Rose 2002 Champagne

*An equal blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vinified as white wine, to which some Pinot Noir red wine from Mareuil-sur-Aÿ has been added.

Tasted in Aug., 2015

Lovely coppery-pink hue.

First pour into Lehmann Grand Champagne glass (with flattering tulip bowl). Exquisite purity & crispness of cranberry & cherry, with smooth yet crisp mousse.

Second pour into Richard Juhlin Perfect Champagne glass. More layered nuances shine through: exotic wood, pink grapefruit, and with more aeration, enchanting rose petal & spicy wild strawberry, enhanced by lovely creaminess in the background. 

On the palate, still youthful tautness: mineral, vigorous and persistently long, impressing us by her aura rather than flavor for now. A ballerina on her toes!

This is the third bottle of Elisabeth Salmon Rose 2002 I’ve tasted, and by far the healthiest, least evolved one. A perfectly kept bottle from a great vintage blend. Great promise in store!

The vintage 2000 is sexy and chewable, while 2002 is built to evolve for decades! Heard the next release will be vintage 2006, and I just can’t wait! ( Billecart-Salmon certainly cherish the fame of its prestige cuvees by not making them in 2003 or 2004. Bravo! )
