Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Brut Blanc de Blancs 1990 (750ml)

Intense, evolving gold, still with some green highlights! A few beads of fine bubbles leisurely rise.

The evolved bouquet is opulent right from the start: rich and broad, gradually unfolding layers of cheese, game, chalk, sweet bakery notes, vanilla, honey and then coffee, nut-toffee and white chocolate. Perfectly healthy, with no sign of maderisation at all.

Confirming all the goodies on the nose, the palate is also filled with dense, ripe yellow fruits. Persuasively substantial and full-bodied, yet all the way exquisite and elegant, thanks to the mineral backbone and brisk acidity. After the lush entry and dense, multi-layered mid palate, the lively acidity delivers an amazingly fresh finale! Pure joy!

An impressive experience. The only pity is that this bottle does not hold up long: some 20 minutes after uncorking, the fruit on the palate seems to evaporate, only leaving behind some still young acids and a paste of minerality. But the bouquet is just as charming and opulent as ever -- maybe it's now in a somehow weak phase before its decided maturity.
