A relatively light and less forceful vintage for Cuvee Churchill. But still ultra-sophisticated with Cuvee Churchill’s usual spectrum of nuances, among which peppery minerality and crystalline fruit stand out this time. The wine constantly evolves in the glass with interesting development, lively and ethereal, but somehow evasive and short –- maybe it’s undergoing some changes now before its decided maturity.

Tasting Note:

19:03 First served upon uncorking. 

          Deep straw yellow with reflections of bronze. Lace-like beads, very fine and lively!

           Slight smell of cork, which needs to be aired out.

 

19:07 Nose: chalk and walnut oil, with hints of dark fruit in  the background.

    

19:10 Palate: bright, vibrant Chardonnay, with uplifting acidity. Big muscles of Pinot Noir still at 

           rest.

 

19:13 Nose: warmer note of toasted bread, perfumed by walnut oil.

          Palate: more power, with elegance and finesse intact.

 

19:17 Nose: charming walnut aroma.

          Palate: fruity and rounded, with uplifting finish of refreshing acidity!

 

19:22 Palate: silky texture.

 

19:32 Second pour.

           Nose: what a wonderful symphony of toasted bread, brioche, ripe fruit

                      and chalky minerality. Rich and broad!

           Palate: depth and power -- flavors of brioche and ripe fruit only enhance the depth of

                      minerality.

 

19: 36 Nose: perfume of walnut.

 

19:38 Nose: hint of blueberry in mineral background.

         Palate: Cuvee Churchill’s ID is finally evident: tons of toffee, ripe fruit and

          nut  -- firm and lush!

 

19:42 Nose: toasted bread, with fragrance of hazelnut.

         Palate: crystalline fruit, with the aftertaste taking on a fine bitterness.

 

19:48 Palate: a feast of sweet melon, white chocolate and toffee.

 

19:51 Third pour.

             Nose: peppery minerality at the core, followed by toasted bread. 

          Palate: sweet melon and candied fruit – excellent concentration of fruit from old vines.

 

19:59 Forth pour.

         Nose: mineral and decadent Pinot aroma. Gamy!

 

20:04 Nose: toffee and red berries.

          Palate: ripe fruit with nice finish of coffee.

 

20:09 Nose: gamy notes interwoven with sweetness of crystalline fruit.

 

20:12 Palate: peachy fruit with coffee finish.

 

20:20 Nose: peppery minerality.
