La Grande Dame Rose 1990
Brut Champagne by Veuve Clicquot
Ponsardin
Grape
proportions: 62% Pinot Noir,
38% Chardonnay
Type: Rose
made by blending
(addition of still red Bouzy wines into blended
still white base wines before
second fermentation)
Tasted in end Oct, 2009
Red gold
robe with orange hue. Very healthy, indeed
vigorous and persistent effervescence,
indicating perfect storage
condition.
The nose and palate are
loaded with firm, assertive butterscotch mingled
with wild red berries. In
a fleshy, almost chewy
structure, it holds up terrifically well and
develops slowly in the glass, with mineral and
bitter chocolate gradually gaining strength on the
finish.
Full of
volume, authority and vigor, this
makes a great match with roasted game
dishes. A
truly decent homage to the
great lady in
the champagne
history.
