Bollinger R.D. 1996 Extra Brut Champagne

 Knowing she is still years away from reaching the glorious peak, I still

can't wait to experience her fabulously bold 'youth'.

The nose is excitingly fruity for Bollinger and less evolved for her age. Apple, honey,

cream and then vanilla and only slight note of walnut. Not that much house

typical oaky, oxidative and smoky yet - those will come, but need 3 to 5 more years at

least. This is no doubt a powerful vintage that can age gracefully.

The palate is even more exciting! Rich fruit and terrific acidity make her full but not dull

at all. Full bodied yet very refreshing and crisp. Concentrated and dynamic but not

overwhelming. A gorgeous pairing of acidity and fruit that surpress the oaky character at the

moment. A long mineral finish. Truly satisfying! I love her as she is now, though I am also

willing to patiently wait 3 to 5 years for experiencing her interesting

evolution.
