Merchandising is clearly one of the latest buzzwords in the lottery industry. “It is the key to sales growth,” said Mandy Carter, Senior Business Development and Corporate Accounts Manager for GTECH Texas, which operates the sales and marketing services of the Texas Lottery. “It’s the one thing that has been missing in really getting the message out there, to capture not only new players, but occasional players.”
And fortunately, lotteries have a friend in Steven Desautels, National Category Manager-Non Foods for Murphy Oil USA. “He is definitely an advocate of the lottery category – completely passionate about driving sales,” said Carter. “He truly embodies the attitude that lottery purchases are a great conduit to driving total in-store sales. And it’s like a dream to have a large chain take the opportunity to figure out what innovative things we can do to drive our business.”
