2. Ask: What do you usually get for your birthday? Write the students’ answers around the word “birthday”.

  (Write “get” on the blackboard, help students understand it and read it.)

3. Show a birthday card and say: Maybe you can get some birthday cards from your friends.

   (Write “card” on the blackboard and read it.)

4. Present the words: toy, chocolate in the same way.

5. T: I’m happy because my birthday is coming soon. Would you come to my birthday party?

  S: Yes, of course.  (Help students give the answer.)

   (Write “soon, Would you come ….?” on the blackboard and read them.)

  T: I have many CDs at home. Would you come to my home and listen to music with me?

2. Present “orange” in the same way. Write “an orange” on the blackboard and read it. Show a bottle of orange juice and tell the students “orange” has another meaning“桔子汁”.

T: Suppose your birthday is coming. What do we need? First, we need a

    birthday cake, right?

   S: Yes, we do.

   T: Do you get a birthday cake for your birthday every year?

   S: Yes, I do.

   T: Do you like eating cakes?

   S: Yes, I do. / No, I don’t.

     (Write “need” and “cake” on the blackboard and read them.)

 

T: What other things do we need? Do we need any juice?

     (Show the picture of a bottle of juice.)

  S: Yes, we do. 

  T: This is a bottle of juice. We also need some juice.  Is “juice” a countable or an uncountable word?

     (Point to “some juice” and lead them to say: It’s an uncountable word.)

    (Write “a bottle of juice and some juice” on the blackboard and read them.)

3. Present “milk” in the same way. (Write “a bag of milk , some milk and cake” on the blackboard and read them.)

 

Step4.Practise

①. Read the new words and the phrases after the teacher:

②. Read them by themselves.

③. Ask some students to read the words and phrases.

④. Practice like this:

Step5. Listen and complete:

  1. T: Millie’s birthday is coming. What do they need? Her mother and Millie will go to the supermarket. Listen to the recording and help them complete the shopping list.

2. Listen to the recording twice and let the students complete the list.

3. Check the answers and then read after the recording. Tape script:

Mum: Millie, your birthday is coming. Would you like to go to the supermarket with me?

Millie: OK, Mum. What do we need?

Mum: First, we need a birthday cake.

Millie: Great! I’d like a big one.

T: Millie asks me to go to her party. I want to buy a present for her, but I’m not sure what she likes. Would you like to give me some ideas?

T: Yes, I can buy her some chocolate. I can buy some chocolate for her.

  (Write the sentences on the blackboard. Let the students pay attention to these two sentences and tell them they are the same meaning.)

T: I buy her some chocolate. What about you? What would you like to buy?

We know Millie for a long time, so you are all her friends.

(Ask several students to answer.)

★ Put the sentences into English using “buy” :

Step2. Presentation

1.T: I have a little friend. Her birthday is in April. April is the fourth month of the year. On her birthday, she likes to wear beautiful clothes and her parents often buy her some presents. Chocolate is her favourite present.

  ( Write “ April, clothes, favourite” on the blackboard and ask students to read after the teacher again and again.)

2. The teacher takes out the calendar. Then the teacher points to one date and talks about students.

   T: It is Lily’s birthday, can you tell me the date in English?

    (Maybe it is difficult for the students to answer the question. The teacher can write the answer on the blackboard.  “the eighth of April”)

   T: How does Lily celebrate her birthday? Can you guess?

   S: I think she has a party or a big dinner.

   T: Maybe. Where does she have a party or the dinner?

   S: At home or at a restaurant.

   T: A good idea! Who will come to her birthday party?

   S: Her fiends.

   T: Yes. What presents can she get?

   S: Many interesting things, like books or hair clips, and so on.

  T: OK, now here is a dialogue about Lily’s birthday between Millie and Lily. Try to fill in the blanks and complete their conversation.

3. Check the answer.

4. Let students read the conversation together/ in groups.

5.Ask the Ss to act out the dialogue in pairs.

Step3.Production

   Ask students to write a short report on Lily’s birthday according to the information in the dialogue. And invite some students to talk their reports.

   eg. Today is 8th Aril. It is Lily’s birthday. She has a birthday party with her twin brother Nick. They often have a big dinner. Her grandfather and grandmother, her aunts, her uncles and her cousins come to her birthday dinner….

Step4. Turn to the part of “Pronunciation”

1.Write some words containing the consonants “/tr/ /dr/ /ts/ /dz/ /l/ /m/ /n/ ” such as: chair  juice  tree  dress  kites  beds  like  mum 

2.Try to imitate the pronunciation the and grasp the sounds of these consonants.

3.Practice, spelling and pronunciation.

Get the Ss to listen carefully and then repeat. Make sure the students do not add any vowels between the two consonants.

4. Stress and intonation.

  Get the students to listen and repeat in the usual way, showing the stress and intonation with gestures.

5. Read the part of “Pronunciation”

Let students read these consonants after the teacher.

Get them to discuss and put each word in its correct place in their books

6.Check the answers.
