Module 5 Newspapers and Magazines
Teaching Plan
Teaching aims:                                      
  Enable the students to
1. know the items of space.
  2. know something about the news in the reading material on Page 43.
  3. learn the usage of some words and phrases.
Teaching steps:
Activity 1.By using a video of Yang Liwei, lead into the course.
Activity 2. By using some photos of some astronauts, explain the meanings of the five words.
1) astronaut     2) cosmonaut    3) universe    4) taikonaut   5) navigator
Then check if they have understand the meanings.
Activity 3  Read the text, and find the proper main idea of each paragraph.
    A. Conversations in Space
    B.  What happened on October 16th, 2003
    C. Congratulations from Around the World
    At the same time, then discuss the six sentences with deskmates or classmates around according to the text. If the sentences have mistakes, correct them.
     Ask one student to report the answer. Then check the answers with PPT.
Activity  4. Main ideas.
     Read the text, and find the sentences in the learning plan . Some sentences are chosen from the text .Translate them into Chinese, then ask students to discuss in groups and conclude the usage of the words and phrases. Then do some exercises to strengthen it.

During the period, explain  the meaning of “make an orbit of”, and “take photographs of”
Activity 5. Exercise.
Fill in the blanks of the exercise in the learning plan. They may discuss with deskmates. Then ask one to report the answers.
Activity 6. performance
Suppose one student is a reporter, another one is Yang Liwei who just landed on the homeland., the reporter will interview Yang Liwei. The students can be divided into groups to discuss the performance.
Ask some pairs to performance.
After each performance ,give them an assessment.
Home work.
    Try to recite the text according to the key words.
