Valentine’s Day is on 14, February each year. It is a day for lovers, and one of the loveliest holidays in the United States.
Very few Americans know the story of Valentine’s Day. One English story says that more than 2,000 years ago the ancient Romans celebrate a holiday for lovers. As part of the celebration, girls wrote names on pieces of paper and put them in a large container. Boys reached their hands into the container and pulled one out. The girl whose name was written on the paper became his lover or sweetheart for a year. Then came a Roman priest Valentinus, who secretly performed marriage ceremonies for many young lovers against Roman King’s order. The Roman Emperor got angry and ordered the killing of Valentinus on February 14, 269 AD.
It is very popular to send cards decorated with hearts and flowers to express love. Today many Americans like to send humorous cards to their husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, relatives, and even special friends. Some enjoy the joke of sending “guess who” cards to a person he or she secretly admires. Sometimes they put their love message in a heart-shaped box of chocolates, or a bunch of flowers tied with red ribbons. Candy, perfume, jewelry or a picture with a heart and Cupid(the Roman god of love), who is armed with a bow and arrow, are also sent to express love. Many couples arrange romantic dinners by candlelight for this occasion. Universities also hold a Sweetheart Ball for the young students to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

If You Make a Mistake, Don’t Worry!
Yeah, you may want to forget about them, but mistakes can be useful. Making a mistake doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world. In your real life you have to grow and mature(成熟), and you will experience some growing pains.
You know you should have studied hard but you went out with some friends instead. You know you should have put the money into the bank for a rainy day instead of spending it on all kinds of things you didn’t need.
Most people experience growing pains and make mistakes when they are growing up. If you make mistakes, face them and learn from them. All of the famous people you wish to copy have made mistakes. They’ll continue to make mistakes for all their successes.
One of the major differences between people like them and the majority of others is that they don’t let their mistakes stop them. Instead, they use their mistakes as learning tools.
At the very least, when you make a mistake, you’ll know what not to do. And you can help others by warning them of the mistakes you’ve made. Don’t let mistakes stop you from doing anything. Learn from them, and don’t hide. Face up to your mistakes now and later you will mature.
What mistakes are you making now? Take a look at anything you might be doing wrong. Take a step back and evaluate(评估)your situation, and then correct your mistakes. Then move forward.
Always remember your mistakes to remind yourself of what not to do for the future.
64. Why does the writer say mistakes can be useful?
A. Because you can get to the end of the world.
B. Because famous people also make mistakes.
C. Because you can mature by facing and learning from mistakes.
D. Because you spend money on something you don’t need.
65. When you make mistakes next time, what should you do?
A. Try to face the mistakes.   B. Let mistakes stop you from doing anything.
C. Forget the mistakes you make.  D. Expect others to make the same mistakes.
66. What can you learn from the passage?
A. Before you make any mistake, you had better hide in your room.
B. Remember your mistake and don’t make the same mistake again.
C. Don’t go out with some of your friends any more.
D. Forget your mistakes.

Twenty years ago, when just having graduated from school and working in Detroil, I was driving to my parents’ home in Traverse City for Christmas. I stopped at Downtown for some fuel. While I was standing in a queue at the cash desk, I greeted an older couple who were also paying for gas.
I took off, but had gone only a short distance when black smoke poured from the back of my car. I stopped and didn’t know what to do. A car stopped behind me. It was the couple I had spoken to at the gas station. They said they would take me to my friend’s. We chatted on the way into the city, and when I got out of the car, the husband gave me his business card.
With appreciation, I wrote them a letter for helping me. Soon afterward, I received a Christmas present from them. Their note that came with it said that helping me had made their holidays meaningful.
Five years later, I drove for a lecture in a nearby city in the morning. In late afternoon I returned to my car and found that I had left the lights on all day, and the battery(电池)was dead. Then I noticed that the Friendly Ford Dealership—a shop selling cars—was right next door. I walked over and found two salesmen in the showroom.
I explained my trouble. They quickly drove a pickup truck to my car and started it. They would accept no payment; so when I got home, I wrote them a note to say thanks. I received a letter back from one of the salesmen. No one had ever afforded the time to write him and say “thank you”, and it meant a lot, he said.
“Thank you” are just two words—easy to say while they are so powerful.

A. moved off   B. set up   C. put up  D. gave off
70. The battery of the author’s car was dead because ________.
A. the weather was bad     B. the meeting lasted a whole day
C. he forgot to turn off the lights         D. he drove too long a distance

Chen Yunlin, president of the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits, visited Taiwan and signed an agreement to open direct shipping, mail and air routes services.
A survey indicated that 75%of the people surveyed were in favor of Chen’s visit. Wong Yingru, a university student in Taipei, calls it a breakthrough in cross-Straits relations. She hopes mutual(相互的)recognition of education degrees will be reached soon between the two sides so that young Taiwanese like her will benefit. Last year Wong visited two universities in Fujian and decided to go on with her further study on the mainland. She said, “Compared with Taiwan, the mainland is much large, which often means more opportunities and resources. ”
Mainland universities began to accept Taiwanese in 1986. In 2006, the mainland began to recognize the educational degrees issued by Taiwan universities. But mainland degrees still aren’t recognized in Taiwan. This has kept Taiwan students from coming to the mainland. In 2007, a total of 6,568 Taiwan students studied in mainland universities. The number was much lower than the 54, 000 students from South Korea and the 18,640 from Japan. Lee Sichen, president of the National Taiwan University, said mutual recognition of degrees will benefit Taiwan universities. “The problem facing many Taiwan universities is the lack of students caused by the falling birth rate for years in Taiwan. ”he said.
Bai Mingran, a student in Beijing said, “In my university, there are exchange programs with American and European universities, but as far as I know, there is none with a Taiwan university. This is contrary to the fact that we share the same origin and should be closer to each other. Taiwan also has good universities. I hope one day 1 can go there. ”
 72. Why aren’t there many Taiwanese studying in mainland universities?
 A. Because they are forbidden to study on the mainland.
 B. Because mainland degrees aren’t recognized in Taiwan•
 C. Because the mainland doesn’t recognize Taiwan degrees.
 D. Because mainland universities provide fewer opportunities for students.
 73. What problems are Taiwan universities faced with?
 A. The low birth rate.        B. The shortage of students.
 C. Fewer exchange students.    D. A lack of educational resources.
74. From Bai Mingran’s words,we can learn___________.
 A. her university in Beijing is not a good one
 B. she once studied in an American university
 C. she wants more exchanges with students from Taiwan
 D. her university has a closer tie with a Taiwan university
 75. Which of the following is true according to this article?
 A. Taiwan began to accept the mainland students in 2006.
 B. The mainland recognized Taiwan educational degrees in 1986.
 C. Compared with Japan, more Korean students study on the mainland
 D. Only after visiting mainland universities will many Taiwanese decide to study on the mainland.

作文范文:                  Top Meal of the Day
A recent study shows that nearly 50% of the school kids in Quanzhou Middle School do not have breakfast.  They tend to feel sleepy all day and have bad memories, so it is hard for them to get high marks in all kinds of tests.
Some students who study late into the night choose to miss breakfast so that they can have a few extra minutes in bed.  Others are given money to buy their breakfast on the way to school because their parents are too busy to prepare it for them.  In addition, a few school girls want to stay slim and often go to school without breakfast.
In fact, the morning meal plays an important part.  it can provide 30% of the whole day’s energy.  For a creative mind and better judgment, school kids should start their day with a regular breakfast.
