Tea.

A routine is developing. Each evening Nur and I enjoy an hour or two drinking tea with police, officials and other people who are doing everything they can to help us on our way. This evening (Monday) was spent with the Mayor of Cankiri (Cerkes province) in his offices, followed by a tour of the oldest house in the town, Fisek Ali Konagi where Ergin Yilmaz looked after us very well with a traditional Turkish dinner.

The support team is doing really well considering the very cold night at we spent camping in a car park Yenicag last night at 1,100m. We were well looked after by the local police who offered us plenty of tea all night. Our drivers, Murat, Erkan, Mustafa, Ahmet, Kudret, Turgut and their leader, Lokman are doing a fine job remaining cheerful despite their first ever camping experience being very cold and a little wet. Extra blankets have been purchased so it will probably get warmer from now on (I hope!).

The runners are still clocking up the distance - 66km today with a lot of up and down. Tomorrow is a little easier on the elevation and it looks like the weather will be good. Stephen’s keeping on top of their physical condition “The boys are doing great, a few niggles but nothing more than you’d expect from what they’ve covered so far. Hopefully the next few weeks they’ll adapt to the running conditions and the niggles will subside”.

Stephen’s keeping them well hydrated with electrolytes and ginger tea. Chen Jun seems to be gobbling every snack in sight at the 5km stops. Pringles, chocolate, bananas, oranges, bread, biscuits…. Basically anything edible. The Expedition Foods are giving them a great boost of calories most lunchtimes.

Richard’s time in Turkey comes to an end tomorrow; he’s heading to Tehran to finalise details and meet with our friends from the National Olympic Committee. It’s been great having Richard with us this past 10 days and hopefully we’ll see him again soon!
