杂谈

Today’s lecture introduced several great pioneers in the film history.

Burn in a traditional Chinese family, I do not have many opportunities for exposure to foreign films. For example , although I know the name ‘Kurosawa’, but I have never watched any film of him. Not to mention that he’s great ideas about sound film.

Another great pioneer is Eisenstein, who is considered as ‘the father of montage’. We watched a small part of he’s silent film. The interesting thing is that although it is a silent film, the music in the background is not rigid. Combined with the montage elements, the music shows great power in that scene. Eisenstein also brings a concept of using sound in films. He stated that ‘only a contrapuntal use of sound in relation to the visual montage piece will afford a new potentiality of montage development and perfection.’ Nearly 100 years have passed, Asynchronism, has become the principle of sound film. When we look back into the history of sound film, these great concepts are still shining.

Now I’m thinking about the question that Michael gave us in the first class: what is sound design? Do we need a career called sound design? At least I have released that the sound design is a creative job, it is not what you hear is what you seen, it can gave you more.
