Hi, welcome back to Michael's Studio.
This time, I'd like to say something personal
about career and future, a topic that everybody
cares about, especially around the age of 17-23.
Yes, it's you! Have you ever
questioned the meaning of your
life? Have you ever been bored of the things that
you do every day? Have you ever wandered in your mind, thinking
about "what am I to do now or after graduation"?
Well, I bet you all have that
experience. I had it a few years
ago and sometimes I even have it now. It's a natural thing,
a path that we all have to go
through.
My job is to deal with young people. Instead of just teaching them
English, I would like to have more communication on a variety of
categories, such as love, culture, and fun. But mostly, I get
questions and confusion about the future and their career, quesions
like "Michael, how did you turn to be a teacher?"; "I don't know
what I'm interested in and can you give me some experience about
college life?"; "My parents want me to study abroad, but I'm not
sure if it would help to find a good job when I get back". To
simplify the problem, I just feel that those young people are in
lack of control on their own life. For one thing, they don't know
what they want in life and they hardly ask themselves; for another,
they are not clear about the right time to hold on or to give
up.
Speaking of myself, I don't want to pretend being a
mature or rational guy which I'm not completely.
Sometimes I even doubt myself on the future, and I'm not that clear
if the job I'm doing would be my last one. But it's okay. It won't
prevent me from enjoying my life now, because I know I like it and
I'm not supposed to give it up. Ever since my graduation, I've been
many ones. I was a section manager in a supermarket; a DJ in a
radio station; an advert agent in a newspaper and an English
teacher which I am now. To tell you the truth, I never planned to
be any of them; they just came to me and I took it, then did it
with all I could.
Something
happens in our life unpredictably; someone shows up in our way
unexpectedly. Those are out of our control. The only thing that is
within our power is ourselves. Why don't we save some time asking
ourselves what we are really looking for?
what would make our life be filled with meaning?
What can we feel proud of ourselves? If you find out, then you
won't be at lost. You'll know what to do and how to make the best
out of each second. Back to myself, I don't TRY to
be someone famous or rich; all I want is to enjoy this world to the
depth that I could ever dig in. But I need materials to live, like
money, so I have to work. I wish I could combine my career with my
future together, not just working to survive but to enjoy and
learn. It seems that the job I'm doing is the best I can get right
at this moment. There's no point that I should give it up, so I'll
just hang on and do it. It's as simple as
that.
My friends, I am trying to tell you something, if you are not sure
about the future, then spend some time alone and ask yourself. Then
go out to meet different people, to communicate, to learn, to
experience, and after a while, ask yourself again if it's really
what you want. If it is, hold on; if it is not, give up and move on
to the next.
Always remember one thing: life is not about expectation, but
experience. Good Luck everybody, see you soon and have a good
day.
