英语中有不少词或因形似，或因义近，给初学者在理解及运用上造成容易混淆的困难。然而，当我们将一些形似或义近的词“纳”入同一句子时，其“同”其“异”即不言而喻。实验证明，这不失为一种有效而有趣味的辨义法。

1/ I received a present yesterday, which I did not accept.  

昨天我收到一件礼物，但未接受。

2/ He looked hard, but as it was very dark, he saw nothing. 

他认真看了，终因天暗，没看见啥。

3/ The climate here is said to be mild, yet the weather has been terrible these days.

据说这儿气候温和，可近日的天气糟糕透了。

4/ He and his family have set up their home in a 3-storey house.

他和家人在一幢三层楼的房子里安了家。

5/ That lady who has blue eyes and golden hair wears a gold watch.

那位金发碧眼的女郎手戴一块金表。

6/ He seated the baby on the lawn, and asked me to sit beside him.

他让幼儿坐在草坪上，叫我坐在他身旁。

7/ She goes to work on foot sometimes, and she will buy a bike sometime.

她有时步行上班，今后她想购置一辆自行车。

8/ The doctor treated him for cancer but didn’t cure him.

医生医治他的癌症，但未能治愈。

9/ He worked in the evening and often far into the night. 

他在晚上工作，常常工作至深夜。

10/ Besides, what he said was quite beside the point. 

此外，他所说的离题甚远。

11/ He said,“Speak in English please.” I told him I knew little English. How could we talk in English?

他说：“请用英语说。”我告诉他我不懂英语，我们怎么能用英语交谈呢？

12/ The children raised their eyes as the balloons rose up. 

气球腾空而起，孩子们抬头仰望。

13/ They found an injured man lay on the ground and at once laid him on a stretcher. 

他们发现一名伤员躺在地上，立刻把他放置到担架上。

14/ He searched the whole house, but couldn’t find the man he had been searching for.

他搜查了整间屋子，但未能找到他正在搜寻的人。

15/ He spent 2 hours on his composition, which took his teacher half an hour to correct.

他花了两个小时写这篇作文，而教师要花半个小时来批改。
