钟琬婷8年级获奖英语文章《A
lover of science》

A Lover of
Science
At the age of 6, she fiddled with ‘magic squares’
and cheered with her father after cracking a seemingly difficult
mathematical problem.
At the age of 7, she murdered two tortoises in her fist
‘biological
experiment’.
At the age of 8, she learned to build model ships
and handle circuits and saws with a dozen of boys in her
class.
At
the age of 9, she was
fascinated by algebra and geometry
that her father taught
her.
At the age of 10, her father presented her with the equation
E=mc2 and she set
up an English Internet science file of her own, complete
with information about astronomy,
mathematics, biology and physics,
etc.
At the age of 11, she recited 80 digits of pi,
studied ‘A Brief History of Time’, watched science TV
programs for hours and indulged herself in optical illusions,
topology and
probability.
Now, she is mad about biology.
She says that her dream is to become a biologist, but if this dream
can’t be fulfilled, then she will try to become a mathematician…or a physicist…or…a scientist
whatsoever.
Indeed,
she is always crazy about science.
She is attracted to science
like the iron to the magnet. There are few girls who enjoy science,
as some people say, and she is probably one of those
few females. To her, science glows
brightly like the Northern Star even in the darkest nights,
pointing out the correct way for mankind and bringing hope, strength and beauty
to the world.
Science can drive away our ignorance, providing us with
rational wisdom at the same time.
Science can give reasonable explanations to daily phenomena,
instead of drawing absurd
conclusions, such as ‘the moon
is made of cheese’. Science demands
responsibility, sacrifice and
love for humankind. Science is sacred
power.
And
that girl is me, a lover of
science.
