My   Dream

 A dream is the source of hope and strength. A dream can set your goal in your life and gleam like the Northern Star in the dark, pointing out the way. Without dreams, one’s heart would crumble and one’s soul would wither. Without dreams, one’s life would be a vast desert without directions.

 I have many dreams, dreams that can inspire me and give me hope ……

 As a young girl, I dreamed to be an artist since I had a deep love of art. I hoped that I could weave out my future in a world of colors.

 As a primary school student, I dreamed to be a writer. Literature is beautiful and writing is interesting. I always thought that perhaps someday I could present others with great works of my own.

 Now, as a middle school student, my dream is to become a biologist. Ever since my childhood, I’ve read about the great biologists through the centuries. I’ve always been fascinated by their stories, theories and experiments. They were so brave, so hardworking and so intelligent!

 What did Aristotle say about the classification of living creatures? How did Harvey work out the circulation of blood? What did Hooke see through the lens of his microscope? What were Lamarck’s and Darwin’s contributions to the theory of evolution? How did the peas that Mendel planted help lead to the discovery of heredity? And there were also other scientists who have fought hard and devoted all their efforts to this noble cause: Linnaean, Schleiden and Schwann, Pasteur, Miescher, Morgan …… These shining figures in the history of biology will always be praised and respected by the later generations.

 I work hard during my biology classes. I listen carefully to my teacher’s instructions, and I can always find pleasure in the experiments. I can view the tiny cells under a microscope; I can measure the amount of heat stored in peanuts; I can learn how starch is digested initially in the mouth ……

 Biology, it seems, is so mysterious, yet so wonderful. Nature can always present us with marvels and surprises, and I’m always awed by the solemnity, power and beauty of every single living thing. Each flower, each butterfly, each note of a bird, each growl of a lion is a miracle, a work of magic, a sacred light. I want to explore this spectacular world of biology, to reach deeper into its secret, unpredictable depth.

 I have many dreams. To realize them, I have to strive hard. Whatever my dream is, I’ll try to fulfill it—where there is a will, there is a way. Perhaps some day, all my dreams would come true!
