 ——评蒋方舟译《我那些苦难婊子的回忆录》第二章译文质量

我独居，没有狗、鸟、或者仆人—— 除了总是拯救我于预期之外麻烦的忠诚的达米阿那，她每周过来一次料理我的生活，可即使在她擅长的领域，她也早失远见和聪颖。

I live without dogs or birds or servants, except for the faithful Damiana who has rescued me from the most unexpected difficulties, and who still comes once a week to take care of whatever there is to do, even in the state she is in, losing her sight and her acumen.

【张放评：】

1、“除了总是拯救我于”里，没有“总是”的意思。

2、“the most unexpected difficulties”：译成“预期之外麻烦”，不是汉语表述，或者说表述不准确，似应“最没料想到的困境”

3、“rescue”译成“拯救”，属于过度夸大rescue的含义。

4、“even in the state she is in”译成“在她擅长的领域”，是错译。

5、“她每周过来一次料理我的生活，可即使在她擅长的领域，她也早失远见和聪颖。”重心后移了，说明没有吃透原文。“早失远见”属于译错。一个仆人没有什么“远见”可失，而是人老了，眼神越来越不好用了。“聪颖”不是形容仆人的，是变得越来越头脑不好用了。因此，似译为：“即便像她现在这样，开始老眼昏花，脑袋变得益发不好使了，她也坚持每周来我这里一次，帮我打理一切她能帮得上的事情。”

我母亲临终前，要求我在还年轻的时候娶一个白皙的女人，生至少三个孩子，其中一个女孩儿要继承她、她妈妈、她奶奶那个共同的名字。我打算遵循她的遗志，但我关于“年轻”的定义是如此多变，回过神来，我已错过。

My mother on her deathbed asked me to marry a fairskinned woman while I was young and have at least three children, one of them a girl with her name, which had also been her mother's and grandmother's. I intended to comply with her request, but my notion of youth was so flexible I never thought it was too late.

【张放评：】

1、“my notion of youth was so flexible I never thought it was too late.”译成：“我关于‘年轻’的定义是如此多变，回过神来，我已错过。”属于译多了，也就是添加了译者自己的意思。原文“I never thought it was too late.”并没有“回过神来，我已错过”的意思，哪怕有之前的“so…that…”的意思。这个例子，是典型的译者随意“添彩”的地方。汉语“回过神来，我已错过”读着很好，但可惜原文并没有说到这步田地。

直到一个炎热的午后，当我不小心开错了意大利商人一家在帕多马屋子的门，看见了他们最年轻的女儿西蒙娜•欧提兹赤身裸体地在隔壁卧室午睡，她背朝着门躺着，转头用越过肩膀的锐利目光射向我，以致我都没来得及逃跑。

Until one hot afternoon when I opened the wrong door in the house of the Palomar de Castro family in Pradomar and saw Ximena Ortiz, the youngest of the daughters, naked as she took her siesta in the adjoining bedroom. She was lying with her back to the door, and she turned to look at me over her shoulder with a gesture so rapid it didn't give me time to escape.

【张放评：】

1、“用越过肩膀的锐利目光射向我”这句话，我们一起看一下原文：“she turned to look at me over her shoulder with a gesture so rapid …”“锐利目光”是原文没有的意思，系译者自己随意“添加”。“用越过肩膀的…目光”，原文就是“她扭过头看我”的意思。“扭头看”的结果，在英语表述中，就是“over one’s shoulder”，只不过扭头的速度太快so rapid，所以，男主人公居然连退出去的时间都没有。如果说，此句隐含什么意思，那就是：主人公发现自己陷入很尴尬境地，即“进退不能”的境地。
