今天读到英国女作家乔治艾略特的一段话。极好。
“If we had a keen vision and feeling of all ordinary human life, it would be like hearing the grass grow and the squirrel's heart beat, and we should die of that roar which lies on the other side of silence.”
大致意思是,如果我们对日常琐事,体味深刻而敏锐,能听到小草的生长,松鼠的心跳;那么,平静下面的喧嚣,会置我们于死地。
有点像鲁迅,敏锐清醒的人,总是疼痛的。
好一句“we should die of that roar which lies on the other side of silence.”
我想象,身处一节地铁车厢。眼前,一张张面庞,平静、麻木。若我能听到他们心里的怨怼、挣扎与嘶吼,我一定心碎而亡。
艾略特,是想表达这个意思吗?
