spitting image引申自spit and image，例如，Xinyi is the spit and image of her father。至于spit and image怎么来的，我就不知道了。估计是上帝造人，捏好了之后，“呸”地吐上口水，以示大功告成。

还有一种说法是carbon copy，“复写纸”。科技进步，复写纸已遭淘汰，但在语言里却保留下来。写email时用的抄送“cc”，就是carbon copy的缩写。
