企鹅版《中国现代史》，对中国人有这样几句描述，不得不承认，很精辟：

Every man regarded those above him as tigers to be feared, and those below him as dogs to be kicked.

When faced with power, they dared not resist; when they gained authority, they became cruel, heartless and tyrannical; when defeated, they resigned themselves to fate.

我在实际管理工作中，也曾感同身受。在社会上，也是如此，别看人人愤恨贪官污吏，抗议暴政，一旦自己掌权，个个都是暴君。
