What is the idea?
Where might you find a relevant speaker for the idea (e.g., a local university)?
Why do you want to feature this idea?
Need help brainstorming? Please visit here.
If your event will not have live speakers (i.e., you plan only to show TED Talk videos or a TED event simulcast) please write "No live speakers".
1.BYOD to Teach NOW!
To find a skilled and experienced teacher in BYOD-Teaching, among over 21000 teachers of our city.
This idea is worth spreading for the special educational policies and school rule in China now, as a resonable way to change the way teachers teach (and the way THEY learn as an example set for studets they are facing), which has been practiced for some time by more and more teachers in high school and primary schools.
2.BYOD or NOT?
We hope to (and we are sure that we will) find some student(s) for or against the idea of "BYOD to learn in school", which is banned in almost all schools of China (with few excetpions).
This idea, BYOD or NOT, has been and will be a hit topic for a long time. We hope to inspire deep thoughts and spread great ideas.
3.Go for your MOOC now!
We can/intend to invite professional experts in Educational Technology in the mainland of China to give talks.
What TED Talks will you show at your event? This can be subject to change.
All half-day TEDx events must screen at least two official, pre-recorded TED Talks. For longer events, at least 25 percent of the total number of talks must be official, pre-recorded TED Talks. TEDx Talks that are not featured in the TED Talks library do not apply. See rules about programming.
If this is a simulcast event (a TEDxLive or TEDxWomen license, etc.) please enter the name of the event that will be streamed (e.g., "TED2015").

TEDx event themes must be abstract, not focused on a single subject area. More about creating a theme.
Note that simulcast events should not have themes.

ABOUT YOU
We want to know more about you!
What are you passionate about in your own life?
E.g., your work, your community, your creative projects ...
I am passionate about education, as an English teacher and biology teacher in high school since 2002, after graduating from a normal university, majoring in biology. I hope to do something good for the education of our city, with a population of about 2.7 million and about 21,000 of them are teachers.
List at least one website that will help us understand you better.
E.g., your blog, your company's website, writing, research papers, biography, photos taken by you ...
1. My personal blog: http://blog.sina.com.cn/maofangji
2. A micro-lesson on English writing: http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XOTM4NjA4Njcy.html
3. An overview on Educational Technology and English Teaching (in Primary school)
4. A short video recorded on Educreations.com (in English).
What made you decide you wanted to organize a TEDx event? What inspired you?
- To us teachers, now is the time for us to make a bigger step forward to change the way learn and the way we teach, if we want to avoid ruining the future of the students we are facing and the future of ourselves, especially as teachers in senior high schools. We have been wasting quite some time on whether to deliver devices to students or to allow them to bring them own to school, while we, as teachers, are not doing a good job, we are not making good use of our own devices, as a learner and teacher.
If we want to make a change to our school education, we need to be part of the change, to change the way we learn, and the way we teach, which will set a good example to the students. Holding and TEDx event on ED would be the greatest idea to make a difference to our education.
What is your goal in hosting a TEDx event?
To bring people with great (different) ideas to share on current education, especially on how Educational Technology could help to make it better.
What are your three favorite TED Talks and why? Please include links to the talks.
http://www.ted.com/talks/james_watson_on_how_he_discovered_dna
To see James Watson alive in a talk itself is really exciting for me as a major in biology and to show his story to my students in their teenage is even more exciting, who deserve such an opportunity in this era. As Watson will be remembered even decades or centuries later for his great contribution to biology as can be compared to Sir Issac Newton in physics.
2. 'Visualizing the wonder of a living cell' by David Bolinsky
http://www.ted.com/talks/david_bolinsky_animates_a_cell
Before watching this 3D cell, a perfect combination of biology and animation, learning biology is like 'The blind touching an elephant', as the old story implies that we never know what is really happening in a cell. Though the human being sill know so little about the inner life of a cell, as Bolinsky tells us in his talk, this model is really a good inspiration to the students, and me, a biology teacher who has recommended this talk in class.
3. 'Leather and meat without killing animals' by Andras Forgacs
http://www.ted.com/talks/andras_forgacs_leather_and_meat_without_killing_animals
I love this talk as it provides me with such a good example when leading the students in senior grade two to know more about 'animal cell engineering'. There might be a better example, but this one is the best so far.
What do we need to know about you that we didn't ask?
About one year ago, I applied for a TEDxYouth event in our school, and in the application I wrote: “I have planned NOT to apply UNTIL I have contributed to talks over 90 minutes as an OTP member. For 4 months I've been trying to find a way OUT and I have come to know that it might be the greatest idea to apply RIGHT NOW. It's NOW OR NEVER, as the young students I am facing are not going to high school again in their whole life. This is our destiny, and this is our moment.” But now I have come to a better understanding of our local education and the change should start from us teachers.
I honestly listed my personal favorites above, as a biology teacher now, 3 biology related talks, knowing very clearly and always keeping in mind that a TEDx event will include a variety of topics. Even though the event I am going to organize is on Education and I will make sure to bring people with different ideas worth spreading onto our stage.
Have you ever attended or helped organize a TEDx event?
Yes.
Please tell us which event.
TEDxYouth@Tanzhong (2015)
How did you participate in the event?
Please briefly describe your TEDx experience.
My attempt to hold the event TEDxYouth@Tanzhong (2015), themed BACK to school with Ideas Worth Spreading, ended with some regular small get-togethers among a TEDx club in our school rather than ‘a successful recorded event’.
As licensee of the event and guide teacher of the TEDx club of the school, I have tried my best to train the co-organizers on campus and on-line volunteers from around the world. The ‘official event’ didn’t take place as pre-planned as I don’t want to ‘make’ it a success by doing all the preparations on my own, instead of the young and BUSY students I am facing in our school.
Beside resourses on the official website, I have been in cloe on-line connection with TEDx organizers since December of 2014, which has been great help to a better understanding of a TEDx event..
