I died for beauty, but was
scarce
Adjusted in the tomb,
When one who died for truth was
lain
In an adjoining
room.
He questioned softly why I
failed?
"For beauty," I
replied.
"And I for truth - the two are
one;
We brethren are," he
said.
And so, as kinsmen met
a-night,
We talked between the
rooms,
Until the moss had reached our
lips,
And covered up our
names.

我为美丽而死,
可还不适应睡在墓里;
而有个人为真理而死,
就躺在我隔壁。
他轻轻问我为何香消玉殒?
我答道:“为了美丽。”
“我为的是真理 —— 两者如一”
他说,“我们是兄弟。”
于是,我们在夜晚相遇,犹如亲戚,
