南侧厢房可以进后院，不过那里被杂物废料垃圾堆满，所以难以找到详细的摄影题材。

袁牧之故居位于宁波海曙区杨家桥1号，为典型的清晚期木结构建筑。
甲面布局呈传统的三合院式，主体建筑坐北朝南。主楼为五间二弄重檐硬山式楼房，前檐柱上有十字斗拱，前檐廊有月梁前端呈象鼻状。厢房为两开间硬山式平房。建筑保存完整。
袁牧之(1909—1978)，新中国电影事业开拓者之一，国家文化部电影局局长，曾在电影中首次演唱《义勇军进行曲》。
