Explain
- Use the slideshow to review the key concept words.
- Explain that children are going to learn about families:
- How animals have a family.
- How animal families are the same.
- How animal families are different.
Model
- After the host introduces the slideshow, point to the photo on
screen. Ask children: What do you see in this picture? (A
baby).
- Ask children: What do you think you were like when you were
a baby? (Answers will vary).
- Say: In this activity, we’re going to learn about families.
Families support us and are there for us in times of need. Who are
the people in your family? (answers will vary).
Guided Practice
- Guide children through the next three slides, showing them that
all animals were born babies. Show them also that all animals have
families just like the child. Always have children describe how
their family is the same or different from what they see in the
slides.
Apply
- Play the games that follow. Have them discuss with their
partner the different topics that appear during the Talk About
It feature.
- After the first game, ask children to talk about what it would
be like to be born in a litter. After the second game, have them
discuss different sizes of objects in the classroom.
Close
- Ask children: How do you think animals are different than
people? How are their families different or the same?
Explain.
- Say: All of us have families. Sometimes families are large,
sometimes they are small. Let’s think about what makes families the
same and different.
