Christian Faith on Christmas Eve

(2006-12-24 17:55:41)

God is perfect. If this is incorrect, then perfect  does not exist.

However, none of us humans are perfect because God created us

by mud, not by some advanced material. Our body would be

perfect but only for a short while.  It is our spirit that has a close chance to become perfect since God breathed into us when He created us. However, we are not perfect 99% of the time. Therefore, we are bound for problems, issues, challenges.  When two imperfect person live together, problems doubles. When family members multiplies, so are problems. But that’s a fact of life. We live in such kind of imperfectness so that we are constantly reminded that we need God to help us. “Time can bring you down
/Time can bend your knee / Time can break your heart / Have you begging please
.”  We should be grateful for what we have, instead of complaining for things that we wish we could have. Because it is all God’s perfect design.

As a first-generation Christian, I really struggled to be perfect  when I first  became a believer. The result was a deep sense of frustration and a readiness to give up. Further more, I married a non-believer and would not share the Gospel with her because I did not want her to go through the same frustration and depression as I did. But God has His timing for me. After going my own way for a while, I realized that I could not really give up everything Christian. God has left a birthmark on me. I often came back to seek strength and help from Lord. Soon, peace came back to me. It dawned on me that it is useless to try to become someone you are not. Be honest to God, be honest to yourself. There will be problems abound, but Lord is your strength. You will go through storms, but you will come out stronger each time.

In the Bible, a perfect man is hard to find. Jesus is an exception. The ones close to perfect include Joseph – but his naive got himself into trouble; Moses – he is a bit too violent in his youth. The other interesting example is Jacob. He was not particularly noble when he traded himself a birth right with his brother. But God has a plan. Of course, he had to fled and had to endure many hardship. Then he would have to work hard, earn his keep. He could not marry Rachael right away because he was cheated. He had to wait on the Lord for another 7 years before his dream came true. Then Rachael was not a perfect girl. She was an idol worshipper. After giving birth to Benjamin, she died. Poor Jacob! Although he loved Joseph very much, he was cheated to believe that his boy was dead for more than a couple of decades. Then there was a famine and he had to send his sons to beg for food. If we look at Jacob, a person that God even has a great plan on, he himself was not a perfect man.  He did not live an uneventful life. There were many calamities, hardship. But all is well that ends well.

So my learning is that we all shall strive to be perfect but do not pretend to be perfect. God has a plan for you just as you are. That’s my No1. learning.
