今天我画的一幅儿童画和创作说明

一看这题目，好像我要成画家似的。不是的！

最近我修了一门儿童文学课，老师让我们创作一幅儿童画，而且画中要有故事。老师要求我们在鸟，蛇，鲨鱼中选一种动物，画出它们和人类冲突时产生的恐惧效果。

我不会画画，曾经为这个作业非常发愁。可是呢，在读了我们上课用的儿童画创作书籍之后，我忽然开窍了。画这种画不需要细节，主要是用图形画出大致构思。只要孩子能看懂这幅画就算胜利！

小宝放学回家看了这幅画之后，说出了大致内容。哇，难道说我创作成功了？

下面的英文是必须向老师交待的创作过程。

Reflection Paper and Scary Picture

According to the homework requirement, I would like to make a scary picture in which a woman climbing a rock mountain is threatened by a fierce bird with a big beak.

I started this picture with a big triangle symbolizing the rock mountain. Based on the principle 8 of Molly Bang’s Picture this, which suggests that the larger an object is in the picture, the stronger it feels, I made the rock mountain the largest in this picture so that readers might sense a mood of  a big obstacle.  Then I filled this triangle with the black color to hint the possible death or dark moment based on the principle 6. Based on the similar principle, I made the woman who climbs the mountain much smaller compared to the size of the mountain.  The big size difference between the mountain and woman could create a contrast to show the difficulty that the woman faces.  Next I painted the purple color to the women’s upper and lower body parts to indicate her weakness and gender. I used different shapes to make this woman to symbolize the complexity of human body.

After the mountain and woman are made, I began to make the fierce bird with a big beak. First, I tried to use the oral shape to make bird’s body. However, I realized that the bird with the oval body shape seemed to be very gentle. Then I used diamond shape to make bird body, which looked a little scary than before. This change of body shape reflected the principle 7: We feel more scared looking at pointed shapes and we feel more secure or comforting looking at rounded shapes. I then applied the similar principle to make bird’s eyes. When I made rounded eyes, the bird was not very scary to me. However, when I made diamond shapes of eyeball and pupil of this bird, it became a little scary to me. Particularly, after I filled the eye ball with the black color and left the pupil white, this contrast between black and white looked very scary to me. Again, I used the similar principle 7 to make a triangle beak of the bird because a pointed shape looks scary.  At the upper right corner of the picture, the pointed shapes are lightning signs for the coming of thunderstorm, which could add more threatening to the scary picture.

I applied the principal 3 of  Molly Bang’s Picture this several times in this picture. According to this principle 3, the diagonal shapes are dynamic because they imply motion or tension. For example, the diagonal angle between the bird and the mountain creates an image of motion, which hints that the bird will fly to the woman. In addition, the diagonal lineups of the individual lighting sign and the  lighting signs in a group at the upper right corner also indicates the approaching of the thunderstorm, which could add another level of danger to the picture of the bird and woman. 

Overall, I feel that diagonal lineup, pointed shapes and the big size difference between animal and human being could together create a threatening image.
