我们戴着面具
We wear the mask that grins and lies,
戴着面具咧嘴笑着撒谎，
It hides our cheeks and shades our
eyes,—
将脸颊隐藏将眼睛遮挡——
This debt we pay to
human guile;
因人心险恶不得不伪装；
With torn and bleeding hearts we smile,
心破碎流血却强颜欢笑，
And mouth with myriad subtleties.
装腔作势诉说万千微妙。
Why should the world be over–wise,

In counting all our tears and sighs?

Nay, let them only see
us, while

作者简介：
保罗·劳伦斯·邓巴（Paul Laurence
Dunbar,
1872年6月27日—1906年2月9日），美国作家。以诗歌创作出名，他经常使用方言写诗，描述美国黑人的经历。他的作品幽默和感伤并存，而且多愁善感。1897年曾应邀去英国朗诵自己的诗歌。回国后，在国会图书馆阅览室工作，不久即弃职从事诗歌与小说创作，成为美国第一个著名的黑人专业作家。
