MIRANDOLINA

5 July - 5 August 2006

Beautiful, independent and feisty Mirandolina inherits her father's inn and is immediately surrounded by adoring men, including a penniless Marquess, a coarse count and a sex starved servant. Bored with the attention, Mirandolina decides to show them who boss by convincing a fourth guest - Ripafratta, a self-confessed misogynist, to fall in love with her, using all the considerable skills at her disposal. The consequences seem inevitable, but with a heroine as self-assured as Mirandolina you can't afford to take anything for granted.

STEPTOE AND SON IN MURDER AT OIL DRUM LANE

29 August – 2 September 2006

Two of television’s greatest and most loved characters, Harold and Albert Steptoe, are packing up their rag-and-bone cart and heading to the North West with their hit West End stage show for the very first time.

The tour will see the original West End leading actors reprise their much loved roles. Jake Nightingale (Harold Steptoe) and Harry Dickman (Albert Steptoe) will bring nostalgia and hilarity to the stage with a perfect revival of two of British comedy’s most iconic figures.   In a fitting tribute to the TV show Harold and Albert are once again at each other’s throats as we get the full, unexpurgated account of their hilarious relationship from cradle to the grave and beyond. Based sometime in the future, the famous Steptoe house is placed in the caring hands of the National Trust as the last remaining example of a typical totters yard.

ANNIE

29 August –  2 September 2006

Star of stage and screen, Ruth Madoc, will appear in the forthcoming 30th birthday production of Annie at The Lowry, Salford Quays.  Renowned for her portrayal of Gladys Pugh in Hi-De-Hi and most recently appearing in the award winning comedy Little Britain, she will reprise her role as the dastardly Miss Hannigan.  With a side-splittingly funny script and a memorable score including “It’s a hard knock life”, “Easy Street”, and of course the legendary “Tomorrow”; there is no wonder that Annie has become so special to many people. This show melts the hardest of hearts, whether it’s their first time or their twenty first time!
