世界上最伟大的母亲

　　她曾这样说过：“当我们走到生命尽头时，我们将不会以自己得到多少奖章而得到评判，也不会以赚了多少钱而受到评判，更不会以我们做出多少了不起的大事而获得评判。我们将以下面的行为赢得最公正的评判：‘当我饥饿时，你给了我一口吃的；当我无衣裹体时，你给了我一件衣物；当我无家可归时，你给了我一遮风避雨之处’。”而这里所指的“饥饿”，不仅指缺少食物产生的饥饿，更是爱的饥饿。无衣裹体，也不仅指衣物，更指人的尊严。无家可归，不仅指由砖瓦盖起来的房舍，更指被别人抛弃门外的无归属感。而她正是用自己一生的时间给人们带来“一口吃的”，“一件衣物”和一个“遮风避雨之处”。她不像我们见过的某些施舍的人那样，她没有想到回报，更没有作秀，她的笑容是真的，因为我们从她的笑容中感受到更高意义上的仁慈之爱，宽恕之爱的温暖。

　　她在1979年获奖发表感言时，引用了七百多年前一位伟大圣人（St. Francis Of Assisi 1181-1226）的话。听来非常好，很感人。

　　“...Where there is hatred, I may bring love; that where there is wrong, I may bring the spirit of forgiveness; that, where there is discord, I may bring harmony; that, where there is error, I may bring truth; that, where there is doubt, I may bring faith; that, where there is despair, I may bring hope; that, where there are shadows, I may bring light; that, where there is sadness, I may bring joy.

　　...I may seek rather to comfort than to be comforted, to understand than to be understood; to love than to be loved; for it is by forgetting self that one finds; it is by forgiving that one is forgiven; it is by dying that one awakens to eternal life.”
