④本句是含有一个宾语从句的主从复合句。“I
think”部分为主句,“there is something in my eye.”为宾语从句,宾语从句在复合句中作主句的宾语,它们在时态上存在如下关系:
主句如果是一般现在时,宾语从句可根据表达需要使用各种时态。
例如:He
says(that)he will visit that farm this afternoon.
他说今天下午将参观那个农场。
Mike doesn't know that Mary has been back for two days.
迈克不知道玛丽已经回来两天了。
如果主句动词用一般过去时,宾语从句要用过去时态的某种时态。
例如:He said that he would
give you a call.他说他会打个电话给你。
I told him that I had seen the film before.
我告诉他我以前看过这部电影。(注:told是tell的过去式)
拓展:但如果宾语从句是一个客观真理,则不管主句是什么时态,从句都使用一般现在时。
例如:The teacher told us that light travels much faster
than sound.
老师告诉我们,光的速度比声音的速度快得多。
以上所讲的都是陈述句所作的宾语从句,这种宾语从句由that引导,that无义,在口语中常省略。

⑨else是形容词,意为“别的”,“其他的”。和other同义,但二者用法完全不同。other修饰名词,位于名词之前。

而else修饰不定代词(something,everything,anything,nothing,somebody,everybody,anybody,nobody等),疑问代词(who,which what等)和疑问副词(when,where等),必须位于这些词之后,与other位置恰好相反。

⑩句中动词get用作系动词,意为“变,变得”,后面跟形容词,构成系表结构。“get fat”意思是“变胖”。
例如:The weather gets
warmer,
and the days get
longer.
天气渐暖,白天渐长。
Our country is getting stronger and stronger every day.
我们的祖国日益强大。
拓展:除get外,look,turn,become,feel等也可用作系动词。
例如:Ann felt very
happy.安感到很高兴。(注:felt为feel的过去式)
The woman looks worried.这个妇女看上去很焦急。
Her face turned red。她的脸变红了。
11本句是一个含有when引导的时间状语从句的复合句。“I was studying”部分为主句,而“when I saw the UFO outside the
window.”为时间状语从句,它表达了主句发生的时间,一般说来,时间状语从句和主句在时态上是相对一致的(注意:不是绝对一样的)。比如本句中从句采用了一般过去时,这时主句要表达“正在进行”,故采用了过去进行时,主句和从句都大体采用了过去时态,这就是相对一致。
例如:David was drawing a horse when the teacher came
in.
当老师进来时,大卫正在画一匹马。
I was washing clothes when you called me.
当你给我打电话时,我正在洗衣服。
拓展:有一种特殊的情况,需引起注意,即主句为一般将来时的时候,时间状语从句不能采用将来的时态,而应使用一般现在时。
例如:I'll write to you
when I get there.当我到那儿时,我会给你写信的。
I'll call you when he comes back.当他回来时,我会给你打电话的。
除了when以外,before,after,until和as soon as等也可以引导时间状语从句。
12“do you think”在本句中是一个插入语,插入语既可以位于句中,也可以位尾,此句还可以说成What is the most boring subject,
