A Visit to the History Museum

Last year I paid a visit to the History Museum in Tianjin. What attracted me most was the special section of our Chinese Culture. I was obsessed with the lively and detailed exhibition as if it had taken me back to the ancient civilized China which I have dreamed of many times. It seemed that a series of lifelike images was moving before my eyes: people were making tools at the Stone Age; people were carving old characters on animals’bones in Shang Dynasty; the tired labours were building the Great Wall day after day ……

Furthermore, China is one of the four ancient civilized countries in the world. Contrasted with the other three ancient civilization,Chinese civilization was not cut off. It lasted five thousand years or so. The five-thousand-year civilization has made great contributions to the whole world, which has sped up the developing pace of the whole human society. In addition, The five-thousand-year civilization has formed our unique customs and traditions, which many Chinese, home and abroad, are proud of .

As I was walking around the museum, I suddenly remembered that some cultural relics and places of historic interest have been damaged mercilessly by us in recent years. In Luoyang ,a new road will be built in the place where it is the old Luo Yang City. In Guangzhou the new viaduct compels the Anti-British Tai in Sanyuan Li to move. Similar examples can be found easily in many other places in our country. We are sacrificing our valuable traditional culture to the development of our economy. Is it worthwhile, I wonder.

Unexpectedly, I came to the Beijing Opera site. When I watched the models who were wearing the Beijing Opera costumes, I imagined that the actors and actresses who wore the costumes were performing the Beijing Opera in the old theatre. But now , it is altered .In some evening parties, actors and actresses rarely wear the former theatrical costumes. They wear suits and evening dresses. The symphony orchestras sometimes take the place of the former music accompaniment. Though the directors change it with a view to following the rapidly changing world, they forget that people like Beijing Opera not only its unique singing form but also the whole traditional atmosphere. I think nothing can ever replace that kind of atmosphere that people were enjoying the Beijing Opera while drinking tea in the old theatre.

Time flies quickly. It is time for me to go home. On my way home, I think the Chinese traditional culture is something like a tree with deep root and exuberant foliage, and the traditional living habits is the rich soil which holds the tree in place. The Chinese traditional culture is something like a large river with many branches, and the traditional living habits is the source of it. So our Chinese should not only learn from western countries but also preserve our valuable living habits in order to preserve our priceless traditional culture.

Do not ignore the traditional culture, because it is the source of our wisdom.

Do not forget the traditional culture, because it is the root of our national spirit.
