Zhang Jiuling once wrote in his
poem “Looking at the moon and thinking of one far away”; the
moon, grown full now over the sea; brightening the whole of
heaven”. The Mid-Autumn Festival is approaching
soon. Inspired by the spirit of
Marriott----“Serve the Community” --- Renaissance Yangtze
Shanghai Hotel and Grand Hotels magazine recently paid a visit to
Hongqiao Old Folk’s Home to express their care and festive
wishes!
This visit made the residents
feel extremely warm and cozy. Mr. Rauf Malik, general manager of
Renaissance Yangtze Shanghai Hotel, who chose to dress in
traditional Chinese clothing especially for this occasion, as well
as some representatives of the hotel and Cherry Li, the
editor-in-chief of Grand Hotels magazine, brought soft drinks to
help relieve the summer heat and moon cakes symbolizing sincere and
joyful wishes. All the moon cakes were engraved with “good
fortune”, “happiness” and “longevity”, deeply expressing the
heart-felt concerns and best wishes to the aged people
there.
Appreciating the exquisite
package and delicately-made moon cakes, the old people were beyond
overjoyed, saying these were the most beautiful moon cakes they had
ever seen. They were particularly impressed when Mr. Rauf Malik and
Cheery Li, personally presented them with their mid-autumn goodies.
Given the taste and preference of aged people, most food prepared
for this visit had traditional flavors. Nevertheless, their taste
buds were also tempted with a more contemporary coffee flavor,
giving them a ‘fresh’
experience.
Besides the food filled with
kind wishes, the residents were also assisted with their house
cleaning. The visitors listened to their worries and chatted about
their daily lives. As the saying goes, on every festive occasion,
people think all the more of their dear ones far away. Perhaps the
aged people might have even deeper feelings on
this.
Since joining Renaissance
Yangtze Shanghai Hotel in 2006, Mr. Rauf Malik, the general manager
of the hotel, has been constantly devoted to charities. He often
visits the old folk’s home tending to residents on New Year’s Day
and during other festivals. He also regularly invites children from
the orphanage to come to his hotel, having dinners and watching
movies. He is such a compassionate person that he was awarded
earlier this year the “Individual Contribution on Spiritual
Civilization” award by the Hongqiao community.
Rauf Malik quotes: “It is very
important to be devoted to charities. The excellent Chinese culture
has placed a lot of emphasis on dedication and sacrifice, and the
education I received from my family also advocates similar values.
As part of the precious heritage of Marriott, the concept of loving
and caring communities has always been the great tradition. We are
constantly enthusiastic about and devoted to the affairs of the
community, city and country we are living in. Persons are always
the key factor for change and let’s work together on the cause of
charities!”
In the scorching summer, these
nursing home residents have not only received sincere greetings
bringing them refreshment, but also a warm piece of mind from both
Marriott and Grand Hotels.
