A Passion for Food
English Version:Heidi Dugan
You Are The Chef was created to teach people that you don’t need a culinary degree to cook awesome food. The most important thing is a passion for eating and cooking. All said and done thou it really does help when you have a great teacher. During the past 5 years I have learnt so many things through the guidance of all of the wonderful and very experienced chefs we have had on the show, but the most important thing I learnt was to have confidence in myself and what I like. From there truly, anything is possible.

The answer is simply… “YES”. I
mean how could they not? We are dealing with some of the best chefs
in the world, chefs that have traveled from country to country
learning how to cook different cuisines and please the palates of
people all over the world. They can cook for 1 person or a group of
hundreds, all the while keeping a smile on their
face.
“Out of all the food I have leant to cook on the show what has been my favorite?”
Hard to say there are so many
that have been absolutely fantastic.

I will be honest with this because I remember it so well. We cooked a salad and steak which all went well, until the chef decided to use truffle oil for the salad dressing. To be fair he was using very high quality oil and did mention to me that it was an acquired taste… I remember the camera rolling and I put some of the salad in my mouth and thought I was going to faint. I felt like I had eaten a mouthful of petrol. It was so bad that we had to stop filming and the salad had to be taken away. Funnily enough thou, the rest of the crew thought it was fabulous and finished it within seconds. Just goes to show you that food really is a personal thing and in the end it really depends on your own likes and dislikes.

Mostly Chinese food, because the ingredients are so readily available and because it takes a short time to cook a fabulous meal of 4-5 dishes. Gosh I can’t even imagine having to cook that many western dishes. I would be there all night.

To not be afraid of experimenting and changing recipes to suit yourself, because in the end the more you enjoy making and eating the food, the more you will cook and the better the chef you will become.
