Royal Caribbean Cruises Limited
(RCCL) has appointed Hung & Kit Travel Services and
Consultants, Ltd as the International Representative (IR) covering
the territories of Eastern China (Shanghai) and North and
North-Eastern China (Beijing).
The appointment is effective
from 1 April 2007 and designates Hung & Kit as the General
Sales Agent (GSA) for the Royal Caribbean International and
Celebrity Cruises brand in these territories.
Mr. Rama Rebbapragada, Director
of International Sales & Marketing Asia/Pacific with RCCL, said
that the appointment of Hung & Kit is in line with the
company’s announced plans to become a major player in the China
vacation market and increase its presence in Asia.
He said, “Due to the sheer
size and numerous channels of distribution within the Chinese
territories and cities, we felt that RCCL’s objectives would be
best served by splitting the country into key regions with a
dedicated team in each region.
“We are impressed with the
distribution and operational capabilities, sales and marketing
expertise, as well as the high standards of service that Hung &
Kit demonstrated, making them a perfect partner to better reach our
customers and travel agents in this region as we open up a new
market in China.”
Ms. Julie Chu, Managing
Director of Hung & Kit Travel Services and Consultants Ltd,
feels that the appointment paves the way for a win-win partnership
between RCCL and Hung & Kit, given RCCL’s established and
reputed brands and Hung & Kit’s depth of experience in the
market.
Ms Chu said, “We are very
honoured to be appointed as the International Representative for
Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd in Beijing and Shanghai, as it
illustrates the trust that RCCL has in our expertise in the China
market.
Ms Chu added that the China
cruise industry is still in a nascent stage of development; even
though there are a few existing cruise brands in China, she
believes that the entry of RCCL’s Royal Caribbean International
and Celebrity Cruise brands will evoke a new wave of interest in
cruise vacations.
Speaking on Hung & Kit’s
strategy, Ms Chu emphasized that the company will leverage on its
industry experience in China as well as its media, travel agency
and airline contacts in its efforts to promote the
brands.
This December, Royal Caribbean
International will deploy the 2,500 guest capacity, 78,500 ton ship
– Rhapsody of the Seas – in Asia. The ship will be home-ported
from Shanghai for two months in early 2008, and would offer a
series of 5-night cruises calling at Fukuoka in Japan and Pusan and
Cheju Island in South Korea – an itinerary that is expected to be
a hit with vacationers from China.
