celebrated its 30th Birthday in 2005, having set uncompromising
standards for style, service and glamour on Mauritius over the last
thirty years – with certainly the most glamorous guest list –
including politicians, royalty, movie stars, designers and
musicians.
One&Only Le Saint Géran
was the first international resort-style hotel to open in Mauritius
and as such it has played a key role in the development of luxury
tourism to the island. As well as laying down new standards of
quality and service, the resort provided hundreds of jobs and set
unprecedented standards for
training.
To this day, the dedication and
skill of One&Only Le Saint Géran’s staff is the stuff of
legend and, for the resort’s many regular guests; the welcome is
reinforced by the familiar faces of long-standing staff – 28 of
whom, astonishingly, have been at One&Only Le Saint Géran
since the day it opened.
Innovation is another key to
the resort’s popularity. Three refurbishments and the introduction
of extra delights such as the Givenchy Spa; “Spoon des Isles”
restaurant by Alain Ducasse (his first Spoon outside France); the
Gary Player golf course and the Peter Burwash tennis centre, ensure
that Le Saint Géran remains constantly fresh and
exciting.
The resort is set on its own
private peninsula on the north eastern coast of Mauritius. From the
moment the guest’s car turns into the lush 60-acre estate around
One&Only Le Saint Géran, it is clear that he has arrived
somewhere special.
In the lobby, a high, open hall
flagged with cool stones boasts a stream filled with carp, with
elegant brilliant yellow Mauritian canaries fluttering around.
Beyond this are the pool area, the gardens and the sea, and all
around are the little touches which make a 5-star resort so
special: beautiful flowers, comfortable chairs, rest rooms stocked
with fresh flowers, cool towels and all the amenities you could
wish for.
The accommodation, comprising
148 Junior Suites, 14 Ocean Suites and a private Villa, set at the
easternmost end of the property to ensure maximum privacy,
stretches along the peninsula. Junior Suites are decorated in warm
woods with tropical touches; each with its own balcony or terrace,
an open bathroom with separate bathtub and shower room. double
basin, robes, slippers and Molton Brown amenities, walk-in
wardrobe, spacious main room, desk and dining table. Ocean Suites
have double balconies or terraces and huge amounts of space – a
generous living area as well as a large bedroom and adjoining
bathroom.The decor is cooland simple, using pale wood and marble
tiling, and the walls are hung with local paintings. All rooms at
One&Only Le Saint Géran benefit from the Butler Service which
has made the resort famous the world over. The Villa, which is
designed in the style of an island house, comprises two separate
bedrooms and living areas, measures 622 m2 and has its own butler,
valet and chef and private pool.
All rooms feature Egyptian
cotton sheets, goose feather quilts and pillows (synthetics
available on request) and Asian-made furniture striking for its
quality and sombre elegance. They have CD and DVD players,
satellite television and Internet access. For families, 12 Ocean
Suites connect to Junior Suites, and 76 Junior Suites are
interconnecting; the perfect solution for parents travelling with
their children.
