Islands In The
Caribbean

Close your eyes and imagine
paradise. Alternatively fly direct to Providenciales with British
Airways, and hop on a boat to the dream destination of Parrot
Cay!
Tucked away on an uninhabited
island, the luxury resort of Parrot Cay provides a sanctuary for
visitors looking to unwind and recharge their batteries in a
blissfully peaceful environment far away from frenetic city
life.
The brainchild of Christina
Ong, owner of The Metropolitan and The Halkin hotels in London,
Parrot Cay opened in January 1999. Located in a tiny corner of its
own 1,000 acre island within the Turks and Caicos Islands, British
West Indies, Parrot Cay offers the rare experience of a natural
Caribbean paradise.
White sand beaches, azure-blue
water and coral reefs make Parrot Cay an ideal vacation spot for
the world-weary. The island’s natural vegetation (cactus groves,
spreading mangroves and wetlands) and crystal waters are a haven
for kaleidoscopic marine life and 175 species of bird including
flamingos and ruby-throated
hummingbirds.
With its own three miles of
white sandy beaches, Parrot Cay is the ultimate in chic simplicity.
All the interiors have been designed by Keith Hobbs of United
Designers, whose talents can also be seen at hotels such as the
Metropolitan in London and The Clarence in Dublin, and restaurants
including Vong, Petrus, and Titanic. The resort’s main buildings
and individual beach front villas are decorated in a modern
colonial style with white fabrics and elegant four-poster
beds.
Complimenting the exquisite
decor is a luxurious sense of comfort. The resort is tailor-made
for guests who are serious about taking life easy yet conscious of
keeping physically and mentally attuned. Staying healthy should be
as easy as feeling calm – COMO Shambhala, the holistic spa,
enables guests to achieve such endeavours. Taking a softer, more
natural approach to health and wellbeing, COMO Shambhala Spa is the
perfect environment for meditation and contemplation, while the
island as a whole is an ideal setting for nature walks and wildlife
watching.
The spa’s three pavilions are
the venue for mind-and-body treatments, therapies and classes, with
an emphasis on Eastern-inspired therapies. For guests who desire
more privacy or a full day of treatments there are individual
cabanas while for those interested in learning more about a
holistic approach to health, there is a programme of healing
retreat weeks led by well known practitioners and experts. A
library with large veranda provides an additional relaxation zone
where guests can read, rest and soak up the calming
atmosphere.
Sports facilities at the resort
include tennis courts and a stunning 5,500 sq. ft. infinity edge
pool overlooking the sea, while activities such as the on-site
scuba diving centre and fishing off-shore are easily accessible.
For those who cannot resist ‘going for the burn’ there is a
separate gym with state-of-the-art equipment.
The resort’s restaurants
inspire the palate with a variety of delicious and nutritious
dishes. By day dine al fresco on the beach or at the pool side
Lotus Restaurant; in the evening sample the delicacies of the
gourmet terrace restaurant.
