美国医学图书馆协会向中国地震灾区捐款

早晨收到来自美国的消息,美国医学图书馆协会(MLA)通过美国华人图书馆协会向四川地震灾区捐款5000美圆,用于灾区图书馆重建工作。
 
(Chinese American Librarians Association - Oberlin, Ohio,
August 6, 2008) – The Medical Library Association (MLA) recently
donated $5,000 to support the rebuilding efforts to the damaged
libraries and injured library workers by the massive earthquake
disasters in Sichuan Province and the surrounding areas in China.
MLA’s donation was made through the Chinese American Librarians
Association (CALA) which launched the fundraising efforts since the
happening of the earthquake in May 2008.
The magnitude of the
deadliest earthquakes on May 12, 2008 were measured at 8.0
on the Richter scale which did massive destructions to the region,
including 69,200 death tolls with 18,195 persons
still missing; 374,216 were injured; over 15 million
people lived in the hard hit areas, and tens of thousands of
buildings collapsed or completely ruined, including libraries,
archives, and museums.
“MLA’s donation is very
important and timely to help libraries and library workers in the
affected area.  
Founded in 1898, MLA is a
nonprofit, educational organization of more than 1,100 institutions
and 3,600 individual members in the health sciences information
field, committed to educating health information professionals,
supporting health information research, promoting access to the
world's health sciences information, and working to ensure that the
best health information is available to all.
CALA, founded in 1973, is an
affiliate of the American Library Association (ALA) since 1976,
with a membership of more than 1,000 throughout U.S. and around the
