Part 4 Making of "What will Schumi do
next"
-With the rare opportunity of a Michael Schumacher visit
to a Shell station in Switzerland, we cooked up scenarios that
would have fun with customers. We wanted to capture the excitement
on video, but to preserve the element of surprise it was important
that the Shell station look normal that day. So Shell installed an
array of hidden cameras in the Shell station. Go behind-the-scenes
for a look at how the "What will Schumi do next?" videos were
made.
This video shows behind-the-scenes footage of the making
of Shell's viral videos with Michael Schumacher. The video opens
with scenes at the Shell station in Switzerland where the videos
were filmed using hidden cameras to catch the reactions of Shell
customers. Technicians are shown installing hidden cameras and
cabling in the Shell station retail shop and testing their
operation.
Michael Schumacher comments: 'When I heard about the
storyboard, I was pretty amused because I could well imagine the
reactions, and on the scene what it would be because I remember a
lot but nothing like that.'
More footage is shown of the preparations for filming on
the Shell station forecourt, followed by Michael Schumacher's
arrival on location, where he is greeted by Shell personnel and
members of the filming crew.
Members of the pit crew for the "Pit Stop" video are
shown in readiness. Michael Schumacher comments: 'We have good guys
here today for this exercise but I guess my guys are better trained
at least!'
The video segment continues with scenes from the Pit Stop
video, followed by scenes from the second viral production, 'Is He
Real' featuring customer reactions.
Michael Schumacher comments: 'It was interesting to
basically be at a normal Shell station and exactly the experience
was reactions because normally yes, where I go for the Shell
station, people know me but seeing me in real motion and with my
overalls and everything caused some funny pictures!'
Scenes from the third viral video, "Club Smart"
follow.
Michael Schumacher, responding to the question 'What Will
Schumi Do Next?', had the following comment: 'Well, who knows what
the future will bring? One thing I know is that for a while, I will
just relax and take it easy and think about what my future can be.
Shell has always been a great partnership, so we'll
see.'
The video ends with a candid shot of Michael Schumacher
laughing during a break in the filming of these fun Shell
videos.
-Just after he announced his F1 retirement in September,
Michael Schumacher took time out to visit a Shell station in
Switzerland. It was a day to have a bit of fun after working
together with Shell and Ferrari non-stop for 11 years at the
pinnacle of motorsport.
