        美国哲学家拉尔夫.沃尔多.爱默生曾发明过一个叫“透明眼球”的说法，来阐释其超验思想：爱默生认为，人与自然之间的关系可以归纳为三层含义：1）使用、2）诗意、3）智慧，倡导人类通过与自然的接触，通过直觉(intuition)获得知识，而想要获得这种精神境界，人就需要和自然进行主动接触，爱默生将这种接触的过程称为超灵（oversoul），并用transparent eyeball做比喻，启发人们接触自然，获得思想上的提升：

    以下是其作品《自然》中的几个比较著名的段落：

1） To go into solitude, a man needs to retire as much from his chamber as from society. I am not solitary whilst I read and write, though nobody is with me. But if a man would be alone, let him look at the stars. The rays that come from those heavenly worlds, will separate between him and what he touches.爱默生在此提醒人们，自然是使其获得思想和沉思的理想地点

2）When we speak of nature in this manner, we have a distinct but most poetical sense in the mind. We mean the integrity of impression made by manifold natural objects. It is this which distinguishes the stick of timber of the wood-cutter, from the tree of the poet.和自然融合，获得思想的提升和诗意。

3）Standing on the bare ground, -- my head bathed by the blithe air, and uplifted into infinite space, -- all mean egotism vanishes. I become a transparent eye-ball; I am nothing; I see all; the currents of the Universal Being circulate through me; I am part or particle of God.这里强调人和自然融合，获得超验，变成透明眼球

    超验思想对于英文学习的启示是：1）不要将英文学习简单的理解为语法和单词的学习，而应该先从生活中捕捉英文的点点滴滴，路边的标牌、餐厅中的餐单都可以是学习的资料，他们来源于生活，往往是最真实的学习资料，将它们收集起来，日积月累自有成效；2）各行各业的人应该注意自己身边的“自然”，学习法律的同学应该学会阅读法律文本，学习医学的同学，你的自然就是每天的医疗用语，而对于学习财会的同学，则不要觉得那些专业术语生涩难懂，那就是以后工作中需要的用语。3）真正的课堂在生活中，不在教室里，要从自己的生活和工作里面搜集语料，建立自己的语料系统和数据库。
