OUT OF EXECUTION DRUG: Texas is running out of execution
drugs, again. After switching to pentobarbital when its former
lethal drug became hard to get, the Texas Department of Criminal
Justice says it only has enough of the lethal sedative to last to
September and no alternatives have been found. The state has killed
11 people this year, and at least seven more have execution dates
in coming weeks. None of their executions have been delayed because
of the shortage. States that practice capital punishment have been
hard pressed to come up with enough lethal drugs in recent years,
as manufacturers have come under pressure from death-penalty
opponents.
