我从小功课不错是父母的骄傲，后来转学很多，因故历史和地理没有完全学好，留下阴影。

       事实证明：面对枯燥的教学，只有寓教于乐，才能事半功倍。

       在美国东南沿海地区，南北战争期间，不少非洲黑奴移民到南卡罗来纳州的希尔顿黑德岛(Hilton Head Island, SC)、乔治亚州等地，他们帮白人做事被统称为：嘎勒黑人(Gullah，Geechee)。

       由嘎勒黑人使用英美、西非“杂交”而成的语言被称为：嘎勒英文。

       嘎勒黑人烘烤压碎后的生蚝壳，加入完整的贝壳和沙子，用水调和，干燥后便成为当时独特的“混凝土”：Tabby。

Look closely at the wall surface here. These remaining portions of the Stoney-Baynard home exemplify a masonry technique called tabby which was popular in the Low Country during the 18th and 19th centuries. Tabby was produced by first burning crushed oyster shells to make lime and then mixing this substance with sand, whole shells and water. When it dried, tabby formed good, sturdy cement suitable for foundations and walls.

       同学们通过实地参观18世纪前期开建并用Tabby 打造的庄园遗址------The Stoney-Baynard ruins后，纷纷留下深刻印记。

       值得一提的还有：当年希尔顿黑德岛还种植了海岛棉(Sea Island Cotton)，非常成功，售价高达2美元/磅，而培植用肥是盐沼渣土和牡蛎壳等……

       如今，庄园遗址的建筑架构给考古学家们留下了研究和参考答案。

       在美国沿海类似的寓教于乐场景还有：See the "Rum Cellar" at the Pirates'House，看鬼屋，America's Most Haunted City 等等。
