Care for Children – Lang Lang International Music
Foundation
Hope you’re all doing well! Haven’t been
updating my blog for some time, because I’ve been busy performing
and setting up my own foundation after the
Olympics. I’ve been performing in Europe and
America lately, and what touches me most profoundly are the changes
the Olympic Games have brought to us. It is not
limited to the honor for topping the gold medals list, but even
more so due to the new image my motherland has on the international
scene. With the Beijing Olympics, Chinese culture
is spreading widely across the world. Everywhere
I visit, people are very much engaged in discussions about China,
her history, philosophies, literature, and of course,
music. Commoners in Europe and America are
engrossed and fascinated by our mysteriously unique and highly
charismatic oriental country. When I saw these
changes for myself, I felt so very proud.
Seeing my country thrive makes me want to achieve more in my own
field of profession. The music foundation I’ve
long been preparing to set up is finally about
launch. I want to play a part in nurturing the
next generation too! The objective of this
foundation is to provide guidance and subsidies to children who are
in need of economic assistance, so that they can achieve their
dreams.
On the 20th of October, I will announce the launch of
my foundation in New York with the presence of my friends Neil
Portnow (Chairman of Grammy Award Academy) and Sandy Weill
(Chairman of Carnegie hall and Former Chairman of the
Citigroup). Mr. Portnow will deliver an opening
speech and announce the name of the foundation – Lang Lang
International Music Foundation, while Mr. Weill will announce the
names of the first lot of sponsored children.
They are three newly-chosen and extremely talented young
piano-players aged 6, 8, and 9. I shall also give
them guidance on the occasion.
To me, music is full of energy, and musicians should be just as
energetic. We need more sources of new energy to
sustain and develop the great traditions of classical
music. The cultivation of this source of energy
should start with the young. Hence, my foundation
aims at providing more help to children. I
sincerely hope that everyone will support our new generation of
musicians!
There is one more thing that I’d like to share: I’m
moving! I’m moving to New York, and my place is
very close to Carnegie Hall. I’m so happy about
moving into my new place!
Hope you too will always be in sunny mood!
