Let me Lydia the way

Chapter7

In the past year, I was listless and directionless, with the equipment put into production of products and the British engineers already left for the U.K.

“Give me a new job and let me do it, please,” I said to my boss. “Don’t be in a hurry, I haven’t been thinking about what department is suitable for you,” my boss said, “You just take a break first.” In fact, I was going to leave this state-owned enterprise because of the monotonous work and complicated interpersonal relationship.

“I’d like to resign from my job,” I said, “I can’t waste my time in this way.” I put my resignation letter on his desk.

“What?” I caught the flash of exasperation on his face, “You just take your resignation letter back,” my boss said, “Think carefully before you answer, and don’t you think you have better salary and good working environment ?”

“Yes, but I want to be free.” I said. My boss was starting to get angry：“Am I not treating well to you? You go! if you leave here，you will lose everything! ”

“I am so sorry, but I have already thought it over. Good bye.” In that moment，I felt  free as a bird. China in the late 1980s, making such brave decision was so adventurous; maybe I would lose whole employment security because the flow of talents system and management were imperfect creature at that time.

My boss published in the newspaper that “Lydia went AWOL “because I knew that he really didn't want me to leave for a new job. Three years later I received an overdue letter which was from my ex-boss, finally both of us rebuilt a rapport and the event of "Lydia went AWOL” was appeased.
